My diamond has suddenly developed a patch of a yellow rough substance. It is not coming off with cleaning. I first thought it was a chip, but I don't think it is.

I don't use harsh cleaning substances and usually take off my diamonds off anyway unless it's a quick spray of the counter tops (with Method brand...it's a natural type of cleaner).

I swear it's like it has corroded, but literally cannot think of how and am told that is not possible!

It's a highly recommend vendor here so the diamond itself is not the problem.

Any ideas?

Pictures? Could be something you've got on the stone that is "corroding" or more likely collecting dirt/muck.

Dried egg…ear wax? Jk. Show us some pictures. Usually I soak mine in almost boiling water (microwave in a coffee cup (without ring)) and a drop or five of Dawn. Soak until the water is tepid. Then scrub with an unused (but cleanish) toothbrush. Reinspect. Repeat as needed. Might take 2 or 5 tries. But, no, diamonds do not corrode.

I cleaned this stone so many times before this post. Ultasonic cleaner, dish soap/toothbrush, etc. I gave it one more chance before sending it off and gave it an especially thorough rub to dry and it came off.

Thank you! Knowing it couldn't possibly "corrode" made me a little more determined I guess. Very embarrassed lol!

professional steam cleaning is the next step after a look by a pro to check if its damaged in any way
Do not let anyone go beyond that without discussing it with your vendor.
post some pictures here also and the report or report number for the stone.

woops see you got it.
Im leaving this to help the next person.

Weird substances are bound to attach themselves to our gems!
I'm glad it came clean!

What about brake cleaner?

Also for future reference, a good rub with a Sunshine cloth(yellow kind, less abrasive)will do wonders for the thinly layered stubborn 'gunk' that can accumulate.:))

It could have been The Dreaded Mucus ... the same one that attacked Tokyo - well, according to that 1950s Japanese horror film.

I'd rather see a Japanese film about mucus, rather than a mucus film.
