Can a setting made for a cushion accommodate a round?

Hi Everyone,

I had a Leon Mege 907 setting made for my 1.45 ct AVC (6.87 mm L x 6.46 mm W x 4.51 mm D). I re-set the cushion, though. Can the setting now accommodate an RB? Thanks so much!

Depends on a lot of factors like what are the size difference, l/w ratio of the stone, what kind of prongs, etc. Best to let a jeweler look at it.

Thanks, Stone Cold. The setting has double claw prongs and my cushion has a 1.06 ratio.

It might, depending on the depth (assuming the round stone is around 6.5 mm thereabouts). Without seeing the current setting, I'd like to bring up the point that it may either show a small degree of metal overhand (support bar, if it has one) or that the donut (seat of the basket) will obviously be square while the stone is round.

You will most likely get some gaps (you can draw a square, then superimpose a circle over the square to see what I mean). Depending on the depth of the stone, the gap might be noticeable to you or it might not, depending on how fussy and observant you are.

I'd have a skilled bench look at it.

Without making some alterations, the existing setting can fit a small range of round diamond just as easily as a cushion. Outside that relatively limited range, there will need to be changes made to fit a round stone into a squarish hole. The diagonal width of the original cushion, not the length, or the width of it, are what rally counts, as the diagonal is larger and determines the distance the opposite prongs are apart across the width of a round substitute stone.

Thanks for the responses, everyone!
