I wanted to get my best friend a "You are really awesome thanks so much for everything" gift, and I know she doesn''t own an emerald. It''s her birthstone, so I am considering getting her a small emerald for her to set anyway she likes. Are there any decent deals out there on Emeralds, and if so, where?

E-Bay of course was an idea, but LORD I just feel that I would be scammed up the wazoo. Is $300 a silly small amount to spend on an emerald? Would it be rude to get a 18K ring set with a big chunky lab created, and let her just enjoy the LOOk first, and then if she wants, swap out that thing for a real one later on???

My time frame is before July, so if anyone can help in any way, I would really appreciate it!!! THANKS!!!

I am looking around and am really impressed by the price tage this stone has. Damn.

I guess if it isn''t possible, then perhaps i can just get something else that is not emerald. Thanks for the reply.

A picture... (actually, I think they are yellow gold, and she likes white...DARN!)

its really nice that you want to acknowlege this special friend in a special way. just a thought: there are green garnets and tourmalines that might be more affordable. i don''t really know but perhaps a pretty green gem would still be appreciated even if its not an emerald.

Nicrez, I sent you a PM.

My friend is the kind of person that is such a giver and takes such care of her friends, but usually is never recognized by all those she gives to. I just wanted to make her feel special in a small way (and I mean SMALL, since I originally wanted to get a nice emerald about 1.5cts... but saw the price!)

True, I could get a great Chrome Tourmaline for about that, but was really hoping to get an emerald, as she stated that she didn''t have one and it is her birthstone. I guess it sort of defeats the purpose of getting the item if it''s not emerald. I would rather spend the $ on something without gemstones and more along her lines (Tiffany)... hee hee...

Thanks, and I guess I will keep looking around for a miracle...

Look at green Beryl. It is exactly the same as emerald but a lighter tone. Also it is ussually much cleaner. I bought one for my wife a few years ago that was 4cts and about $500. I had it set in a pendent that she wears every day.

NIcrez,
You might consider getting a high quality emerald cabochon. They look very similar to Imperial jade and are relatively inexpensive. You could probably get a fair sized stone for that $300 in a cab.

I''ve also seen some emerald carvings that are similar to what Michael described. Or what about some emerald beads?

If you go to Mineral miners to their emerald jewelry selection, everything is more than $300
EXCEPT- their 18" emerald bead necklace (bottom of the page). To me, it looks very nice and is real emerald, which is the point, isn''t it?

also, some vendors, I think even fay cullen? has rings with small emeralds set into them.

Unfortunately a 1.5 carat nice emerald is a dream (but a nice one)

No, unless it is quite small.
Yeah... sure so. I''ve been asking for a pair of emerald stud earrings after loosing one of mine and my jeweler produces a sample of what he could source - a single 4mm round brilliant cut emerald with very nice color, definitely clean and $350. That one didn''t have a pair yet, but it will by the time my summer conference trail is over. If there is one, there must be more out there.

Among my usual browsing domain

there are two small emeralds (5mm or so) that might fit the project: see them here

5mm tringle $300 and 4.7mm round $130

Since the size is not unusual for diamond pendants, why not an emerald !
Hopefully, the price tag of that designer label helped bestow respectability to all tiny emerald drops everywhere.

0.2 emerald for... 10k/ct , not bad !

These pendants are very cute, no doubt...

I don''t know how much it might cost you to have a small stone mounted like that - I am too used with the Romanian manufacturing neverland for that.

Hi Ana,

What size are you looking for? Do you only want rounds? Do they have to be untreated? I saw dozens of matched pairs the other day.

I have this handful of 3-4mm colored studs I keep wearing all the time, and the emerald ones got lost - both of them. If there is anyone crazy enough to make collet set studs with fancy shapes that tiny, fine with me. I don't think it would be fair to ask around for the same labor cost I am getting here

I just wanted to know what you are looking for in stones and see if my guy had a matched pair for you. I know he has matched pairs in all sorts of shapes. Some smaller ones are not treated. I wanted to know what you were looking for to ask him and let you know (Only if you would like me to of course).

Hello Nicrez,

I have a very small 1/5 ct emerald that is very cute. If you email me your address privately I''ll give it to you. I bought it as a small crystal and for a joke had it cut so I know it''s not treated.

See PM.

Oooh! That''s www.mineralminers.com has some nice leads...

emej117.jpg

$184.25 - $231.25

emej115c.jpg

$284.50

I think either are really, really cute!

Yes, those emerald bead necklaces have sorely tempted me. Another great section in mineral miners is their green tourmaline pendants, some under $300. Most not emerald green color, but blue greens and lighter greens, but very pretty.

Oh yes, if you do decide to go the created emerald route I have heard Michael E. is very good.

Thanks for the fabulous input! I will look into the emerald necklace, i think it''s fun. Maybe not her style, but who knows...

Thanks!
