Can I get help w/ 5 stone proportions?

I set a deadline of July for myself to figure out what I want to do because I’m so indecisive that I can flip flop forever. I’ve landed on graduated 5 stone.

The stones I have are 2 0.5 ct ACAs. I’m thinking 0.3, 0.5, 0.6, 0.5, 0.3 based on that I’ve read on other post. Thoughts?

Have you drawn out that size/look? Any pictures to post?

The numbers seem good to me but I wonder if the diamonds on the ends are too small. Like it may look like a 3 stone with smaller
side diamonds due to the jump from the .3 stones at 1.9mm to the .5 at 2.3 and the .6 at 2.4. That would be my main concern
if you are looking for the 5 stone look. Do you have any drawn-out scaled pics you can post?

Not the best but this is what I managed to whip up. I was thinking 0.3 ct sides as the small ones because of a comment from @mrs-b on an old thread. IIRC her suggestion was the second largest pair of stones should be not too much smaller than the largest, center stone, and there should be a bigger difference between the smallest pair and the larger pair so there’s a nicer curve.

My bad! Actually, its my bad eyesight!:P2 I was looking at .03 instead of .3 size stone.

What you have pictured above looks good to me!

Great! Now I need to figure out how to set…

Do you prefer a more concave or convex rise from end stone to center?

I prefer a concave rise (bottom picture), personally. Others like the top.

Def the top for me.

You could buy similar mm size loose CZ's on eBay and line them up at home so you can see if you like them. If you go that route, then buy a few more diff sizes and try diff combos.

I have CZs in mm sizes at .25 mm intervals if you'd like me to line them up and take a pic for you.

That would be great! I’d really appreciate that, thank you!

@winnietucker ok, I'm writing a note to myself now, it will most likely be tomorrow.

Here are the photo comparisons.

First I lined up CZs as close in mm size as possible to the diamonds you listed above. Then I did three more comparisons, changing the mm sizes a little to show you a few other options. I took 3 pics of each lineup - one zoomed in, one zoomed out and one with my hand as reference (I'm ring size 4.5).

Note: my CZs are in .25 mm increments, so they are not exactly the size of your diamonds, but they are as close as I can get.

Version 1: (As close as possible to your original lineup)

Version 2: Increasing the size of the center stone from 5.5mm to 5.75mm

(I personally liked this version better -- the original lineup looked a little flat in the middle to my eye).

Version 3: I left the middle stone at 5.75 and bumped up the size of the end stones from 4.25mm to 4.5mm. (This makes the rate of graduation more slow/subtle).

Version 4: I brought the end diamonds back down to 4.25mm but I bumped the center stone up to 6mm for a more extreme graduation. (This makes the rate of graduation higher/faster.)

I hope this is helpful.

In person, the only one I wasn't as keen on was the first option because I felt the middle three stones plateaued in size too much, even for a subtle graduation. Some options show more of a slow graduation and others a more extreme one. But its all personal preference and I think this is going to be a very pretty ring which ever way you decide to go.

One other thing I kept thinking while I was taking the pics. This project would be so cool made using antique diamonds. The elegant swoop of the gradation of sizes -- how amazing that would look with puffy, slightly wonky crowns! I know it would make the project a pain in the backside sourcing all of them, in matching colors no less. Just a thought though.

Yes, @RunningwithScissors, very thoughtful and helpful for you to go through the effort to create and post!

I personally prefer Version 2 that @RunningwithScissors posted. I think the gradation is nice and it looks more "purposeful" to me than Version 1.

@RunningwithScissors Thank you so much! This is super helpful. I really appreciate you putting this together. I haven’t decided which one I like best yet. I’m going to have to look at it off and on a few more times and I’ll have to stew on it.

@RunningwithScissors these are great visuals! I thought when I first read this thread that there wasn’t enough size difference between the center stone and the next two on either side of the center stone. I didn’t say anything because without a visual it was just a feeling. However, these displays are wonderful and should be hugely helpful to the OP and others!

@winnietucker, It sure sounds like a huge sparkler! What kind of setting are you thinking?

@winnietucker -- ^ that's a great setting for multi-stones!

I'd love to see more views of that setting if you happen to have more photos or a link to the original thread.

Looking forward to more updates on your 5 stone project!

Unfortunately I don’t! If anyone knows I’d also like to see more. I saved it a bit back and found it while I was scrolling through my photos.
