Greetings all. The 10-year anniversary is coming up this August and I''m thinking about getting one of the shared-setting band ring from Tiffanys. I *think* the 3mm .56ct ring seen here is the one I''m leaning most towards. It is just hard to get a real sense of size and look with the product pictures they display. Does anyone have this ring? If so I would love to see shots of it on the hand with your wedding band and/or engagement ring. I can''t really take her wedding band and engagement ring to Tiffanys with me to see all three rings together (without ruining the surprise) so I''m kinda just relying on pictures from others if you have the time and would be so kind.

I''m planning on giving it to her on our 10-year anniversary while we are in Kauai (at the same hotel, same wing, same floor/suite) as our honeymoon 10 years ago.

I really appreciate the help.

hi brobar :)

i am very familiar with that ring, tho i dont own it so cant help you out with photos.

i actually love that ring - but would never buy it, frankly. it''s a very pretty design, but be aware! - it''s not a big ring by any stretch. it''s also hugely overpriced. i mean seriously, seriously overpriced.

are you looking for a ring to go with another ring? to sit below an engagement ring, for example? if so, i can understand keeping it small. but if this is to be a stand alone ring, you could find something to blow her socks off for 4k - and this isn''t really it.

as i said - it''s a ring i''ve looked at many, many times - and i''ve recommended this design to people more than once on PS. but i wouldn''t buy this from tiffany if i wanted something eye catching.

alternately, you could get the same ring for much less money going through someone like Brian Gavin Diamonds and having them make it for you. you''d get a weekend away with the change, too. :)

good luck!

I dont but a friend of mine has something very similar as her wedding band and I think it looks beautiful! Can I just say how romantic and thoughtful you are - I hope I get as good an anniversary surprise when its my 10th anniversary!

I was planning on this sandwiching her engagement ring with her wedding band. A little more info on the set she already has:

What we are working with is an engagement ring in platinum that might be a hair less than 2mm wide with a .6 carat solitaire... and a wedding band that is simply platinum and probably no more than 2.5-3mm itself. I want something that compliments the set and hopefully gets your attention without it being distracting. The solitaire in the engagement ring is definitely not large by any measure so I want the shared setting to compliment it with out overpowering it.

It doesn''t HAVE to be a Tiffany ring and if I were going for a standalone I would definitely want something larger and more eye-catching but I think I''d like to make this a piece that goes on the same finger as her current set. Around $4,500 is my budget. The reason I was leaning towards Tiffanys is I''ve gotten her several items from there in the past but they were all necklaces, ear-rings or bracelets... I''ve never gotten her anything from Tiffany''s that cost more than a $600 cuff bracelet so I figure for our 10-year anniversary it might be time to step up to the plate. I know the cost/quality ratio at Tiffany''s is probably laughable but she never fails to light up when she sees that little blue box. I know you are paying for the name... but she loves that name. =) I''m sure she would love an even nicer setting from somewhere else as well so I haven''t completely settled on Tiffany yet. If you ladies have suggestions keeping her current settings in mind... I''m definitely open to ''em.

brobar, here''s a photo of a ring of mine. it has a row of 12 x 6pt stones, .72ct in total. the stones in the ring you''re considering would be only slightly larger than these so, as you can see, not large.

anyway, just a few thoughts. i''d talk to BGD about getting a quote for something a little more striking; they''re extremely well known on PriceScope, used often, and highly recommended. you''ll find various threads specifically to them if you do a search.

let me know if you have any further questions :)

ahh - ok - got it!

in that case, personally, i''d find the tiffany ring a little too large. it won''t be a big ring, but it *will* fight a .6 solitaire. if it has to be tiffany, they also have a band one size down in that range - 3pt stones - which would look better in my opinion (tho remember, this is all personal taste). the .56 ring might look ok with her wedding band in the middle, but if she were to put them right next to each other, which she would perhaps like to do from time to time, it would overpower it (and perhaps ditto, even *with* the wedding band in the middle).

here''s a suggestion....

call BGD. speak to Lesley Harris there, and ask her for a quote for a shared prong half eternity ring in the specs you want. then with the change, buy your girl a nice pair of diamond studs.

just a thought...

Here are a couple of bad scans so you can see what we are working with:

Forgive me if this is a general knowledge question... (I''m a dude)... but when it comes to anniversary rings... are they generally for and worn on the same ring finger as your wedding band and engagement ring or are they more usually worn on the opposite hand or a different finger? I''m open to suggestions here... which would you like more? A ring that goes with your other set... or one that stands alone on a different hand/finger? It is tough getting a feel from her on which she would like better without totally giving away the surprise.

Thanks for all the assistance ladies... I appreciate it.

brobar - did you see my earlier posts and the photo i put up for you? let me know if this is the sort of size you''re after, significantly smaller or significantly larger.

re anniversary/eternity rings, they''re most commonly worn underneath the engagement ring and wedding ring. however....

times are changing, and many women like to wear them alone, on their other hand, or in any combination thereof. personally, i like them with my engagement and wedding ring as i prefer to keep my rings to one hand. but see if you can find a way to check with your girl - her tastes may be different...

Yes I did and thanks. I was thinking right around that size or maybe just a hair larger but maybe if I go larger it will be too large to go with her solitaire. I''ll have to give it some thought. I''m thinking it best to keep it all on one hand/finger. She isn''t a huge jewelry person and never has rings on more than 2 fingers (she usually wears a tiffany blue enamel ring on the ring finger on her right hand.

brobar, I just wanted to second what Whitby told you. Your girl would not be disappointed that you had a ring custom made for her! Brian and Lesley do a lovely job and you could get her one of the
lovely porcelin blue boxes from Tiff''s to store all her treasures in on her sink or nightstand. Whatever you decide. Sometimes you just have to go for the real thing. Here at pricescope we all like
to get a lot of bling for our buck....

It depends on personal level. Personally, I would wear it on the same ring finger. That way it shows my journey from getting engaged to getting married then to my 10th yr anniversary. Just a thought!!

Personally I like the ring you linked from Tiff''s and think it would look lovely with her ring. Why don''t you just order it - if it''s not engraved you can return it if it''s not to your liking. Goood Luck...

Thanks... at the advice of a few here I did contact BGD (via email since it is after hours) inquiring about their 7-stone shared eternity seen HERE. This might be more the right size to go with her engagement ring. These come out to .05ct per diamond where the Tiffany was .08ct per diamond but I did inquire to see if it was possible to match the size and what would be the price. If that doesn''t overpower her engagement ring then that might be a significant savings.

I do like the 5-stone shared:

HERE but that thing would have to go on her other hand because it would probably eclipse her little solitaire.

hi brobar :)

i think that .35ct 7 stone BGD ring is a way better fit for your girl's engagement and wedding ring. it will augment without competing/overpowering. i do like the 5 stone ring, but as you say, that would definitely be one for the other hand. BGD diamonds (his signature melee) are also a better cut that the Tiffany stones, so the ring will give you more sparkle, which is important; there's a big difference between a diamond that sparkles and one that looks 'flat' or dull. re the 1ct 5 x .2ct BGD vs the .56ctw tiffany - once you realize you can get something almost twice as large of better quality for 2/3 the price, you kind of start to wonder why on earth you wouldn't...

people aren't kidding when they say you pay a lot for the Tiffany name. a LOT. you'll find on PS, however, that the name isn't worth much and people are looking for quality and great customer service.

you can get a very nice weekend away with the balance. or a nice pair of diamond studs. or both...

i don't own these studs, but a number of women on PS do, and they think they're gorgeous...

link

personally, i'd do the .35ctw 7 stone ring and the earrings. great present. that comes to just under 2k. with the remainder, you could take her to london for a long weekend. or hawaii. or the canadian rockies. or anywhere else fabulous that you can think of. not blowing thousands of dollars on the tiffany name opens doors for you. buying the tiffany name is nice for *them*. i'm just not sure what it does for *you*.

good luck!

Hi brobar!!! Firstly, how romantic and thoughtful of you to plan to surprise your wife on your anniversary!!
1.gif

Secondly, I was just going to suggest you don''t go any wider with the new ring than 2.5mm when I saw the 7 stone band by BGD that you`re considering. I think that one would be perfect!!! It won''t overpower her current set and also it won''t be too wide when she wears all 3 together.

I think ordering that lovely seven stone band from BGD, throwing in those pretty halo-ed studs, and spending less than half of what you intended on spending on just the ring alone at Tiff''s- is definitely the way to go. Besides, with BGD in the case of the ring, you''ll be getting Brian''s signature H&As melees. Even Tiffany can''t say that. Their diamonds aren''t precision cut and you''d be spending more than three times as much for the ring.

Well I was originally looking at the Tiffany 7-stone at .56 ctw priced at ($4,475). Speaking with the helpful people over at BGD it looks like they are gonna be able to set me up with a similar 7-stone .7ctw in platinum at over 2 grand cheaper than the .56 ctw 7-stone from Tiffany. And if everyone''s sentiments still stand... it sounds like the diamonds are not only 25% larger (hope I didn''t go too large)... but of much higher quality as well.

It will be another month or two before I order (after the tax return is deposited)... but as soon as I get it I''ll make sure to post pics and her reaction once she receives it.

Thanks a ton for the helpful suggestions and advice! You''ve all been a big help!

The picture in my avatar photo is of my 2 ct solitaire with my diamond eternity band.

The diamonds in the band are 8 points each - I had the band custom made to look just like the Tiffany band that you like, with the same size diamonds. I really like the diamonds that size because the band pairs well with my other rings, or looks beautiful on its own.

I really love the idea of giving your wife a ring like that for her anniversary - she will love it. Tiffany makes a beautiful band, but I had mine made by Whiteflash and they did a beautiful job as well.

Definitely isten to Whitby - she gave you great advice - I think your wife will love the Brian Gavin ring!

My seven stone band has ten point diamonds in it. I''m a size 6 ring, so this should give you and idea of how it will look. It covers the entire top of my ring finger. (I need to take some new pictures).

Wow! What a thoughtful 10th anniversary gift!

I too love when I get gifts from Tiffanys, my FI is much like you, earrings, bracelets etc, but nothing over the top...when I see the little blue box I get all excited. However, BGD''s work is amazing, I hope one day I''ll get something from them for an anniversary.

With that said, I would probably kill my FI if I knew he paid 2k more for the tiffany name if he could have gotten a BGD or many other designers out there for much less at probably better quality!

Good Luck with everything!

hi gemgirl :)

just wanted to say - that band is gorgeous! looks lovely on your hand.

brobar - just to say re the ring you're considering...

i think the proportions you're considering will definitely overpower your wife's engagement ring. however, it would be a lovely right hand ring.

my general rule of thumb is to keep the diamonds in any other ring you wear with your engagement ring to around half the carat weight of the center stone. meaning - my ideal range for a .6ct ring would be around .3. (this doesn't apply for rings with diamonds all the way around - stones on the back of your finger don't count! i'm just talking about the carat weight of the stones on the front of your finger which you can *see*)

now some will disagree with this. but a whole lot won't, and that's my general rule of thumb, and it's worked pretty well. if you do a .7ct 7 stone ring, because so much of the weight of the stones is at the *top*, you're going to see a whooooooooole lot more diamond in the .7ct anniversary band than you will in the engagement ring.

i can see the symbolism of using 10 pt stones. but have you thought about using, say, 3-5 pt stones, and having 10 of them?

just one other option...

you could always turn your wife's engagement ring into a past, present and future ring. that means using the exisiting center stone, and putting side stones (say .25ct each) either side of it to represent the past, present and future. a lot of people do this on a significant anniversary, or birth of a child, instead of an anniversary ring. it would give your wife's engagement ring much more presence, and could be a lovely thing to do. i've attached a photo of a 3 stone ring (thank you Diamond*Dana!) of only slightly smaller proportions than yours - i think it's a beauty. BGD could also do something like this for you, supplying the side stones and manufacturing the setting for you.

rather than adding another ring, it might be nice to bling-up the one she has. just a thought.... (ps i have a 3 stone ring and i LOVE it)

Big fat ditto. If your wife would like to wear this ring with her e-ring, and I know I would if I was your wife, then perhaps a band of 3 pointers would be better. I also like the idea of the three-stone ring, it would look lovely.

Here is a photo of my Dream band from BGD (the original

) -- it has eleven 5 point diamonds and is shown with my 1.2ct diamond solitaire. For a .60 solitaire I would scale back to the 3 pointers to keep it looking proportional.

Thanks whitby! You''re right though. I don''t wear it with an e-ring. I wear it alone or stacked with another band or two.

dreamer_d - perfect example of what i was trying to say - thank you for that!

and - morning gg :)
