Can I see your modern set rosecuts? ( especially if they have a closed back setting!)

Would love to see some examples of rosecut diamonds that have been set in recent times (not antique). Especially interested in seeing any examples with closed back/cup . I'm considering how to set some rosecut diamond studs. I just haven't seen many examples (except one well known IG seller) Any rosecut pics and your thoughts on closed back vs open back appreciated!

I love rose cuts also. Especially earrings. 6B60C7B8-9173-4289-8F30-5211E5D9EEAF.jpeg

This is mine. Unfortunately it has an open back. I’m not experienced enough in this open or close back. I only see beautiful.

I hope someone more experience can help you. I’m also looking forward to what you’re going to get.

Wow, beautiful @joelly ! I've never had rosecuts so I'm not sure what to expect. I've only seen pics but they are so pretty! I'm planning just simple bezel studs .

Thank you. Rose cut diamonds are like water twinkling, I just love them.

The one on top, it came from an old brooch. Set in rose gold with closed back.

@JPie Where is the thread on this ring!? I don't think I've understood other posters' love of rose cuts prior to yours. (No offense meant to those to saw the light prior)

Thank you!

Thanks ladies! For some reason I didn't get any alerts to your responses! @JPie my word, that cluster is to die for! The stones are perfect! (You always have the most amazing pieces!)
@Roselina thank you for the closed back example. Do you feel like the rose cut still has that typical rose cut look even with the backing?
I was thinking the backing might accentuate the facets, especially since these are smaller stones and will be studs. I would hate to pay the money to end up with what looks like just clear glass studs.
And is the high crown crucial to good performance? I'll be getting video of the stones tomorrow, but I'm not sure how much crown they have.

I was wondering about the logistics of the backing on rosies for earrings. Is it like foiled antique stones where you’re not supposed to get them wet because water tracks into the backing and can’t get out? I have a pendant (coloured stone, not rosecut diamond or I’d post a picture) that has the equivalent of a faux foil - a polished plate, with a gap between it and the back of the stone of around 4/5mm I think from memory. The gap means that I can clean the stone and don’t need to worry about getting the piece wet as the water can escape, but the stone benefits from better performance (similar to rosecut backings).

If the backing has the same restrictions as foil, would not being able to get the earrings wet or wash the backs of the stones bother you? The faux foil is fine in my pendant as a more practical alternative as the extra depth doesn’t bother me, but personally I wouldn’t want to be adding depth between my ears and the stones in earrings as I prefer the look of stones set close to the lobe so it might not be feasible for earrings.

No, not foil or faux foil. We are discussing bezel set with a closed back. No gaps, no holes. They will actually be very low profile! And no worries about getting wet, that would not fit my lifestyle :)

I might be wrong (often am!), but I think you can get issues with moisture and dirt tracking behind the stone in a full bezel and you can’t get in there to clean it, so similar issues to foiling. Even water from just cleaning the front of the stone can track under the bezel (not just full on swimming/showering etc in them). Especially with a rose cut with those gorgeous wide, plain facets would that affect their performance? I’m sure I remember a thread on this as I also love rose cuts but can’t seem to find it.

I’ve just registered that this thread is in SMTB. I use the new posts function rather than looking forum by forum and I assumed it was rocky talk and you were asking for input. The one slightly frustrating part of the New Posts’ function is that it blurs all the sub-forums! Sorry, OP!

Here is my newest set rose cut. It has a 18k Yellow Gold bezel with a small opening for cleaning. It is a double sided rose cut. I wanted it cupped to showcase the light yellow color of the stone.

Yeah, that is a masterpiece! Did you get it yet??

Oh I wouldn't want that to happen. I am not one to dutifully remove jewelry either. Not sure I want earrings I can't shower or swim in. Hmm.

No, maybe I actually should have put this there. I want to get input but also want to see examples. A bit of both forums I guess. ;)

I have a toi et moi ring which was originally made with a full backing on the rose cuts but I got them cut out so I could clean them properly. Some pictures are here. They're unmentionables, not diamond but are high dome.

Very pretty ring!
Is these two pictures before and after the backing being removed?

I‘m sorry to be so late with my answer. Yes, we did it to accentuate the facets. Once unmounted, the stone was very very flat. And despite it‘s size, of very small cw. The cup it was set into before had a foiled back. The stone itself was incredibly white, the foil before and now rose gold give it a colour somehow. However, it looks very modern now - no one without a knowledge of diamonds or cuts would recognise it as diamond now, especially not an „old one“. If you want to go swimming with the earrings, I would not choose a closed back. Have them unmount and see what you‘ve got there and then choose :-).
