Hi Ladies- Long time lurker first time poster. I will be honest and feel a little intimidated posting here but what better place to get some feedback. My husband and I just celebrated our 8 year anniversary, we got engaged at 23 and i would like to update my ring if possible. My ring is a little different as in it is a cushion cut but the halo is round. It almost looks like a little flower to me which I thought was so cute when I was younger. For the last few years I have been eyeing a gorgeous Halo ring from ID Jewelery in NYC, but I cant afford to buy a whole new ring or diamond.
So I was hoping to change the prongs and halo to give my ring a more streamlined look. Attach are photos of my ring along with the ring I would like to mimic. I love the higher halo, the tiny diamond up the prong and a clay prong.

In your opinion is this doable? (obvious the inspirational pic is also a much bigger diamond, but i just wanted to show how close the halo fits the diamond)20170628_082455_001.jpg 20170628_082429_001.jpg 20170628_082354.jpg Screenshot_20170628-055734.png Screenshot_20170628-055742.png Screenshot_20170628-055758.png Screenshot_20170628-055722.png 20170628_082455_001.jpg 20170628_082429_001.jpg 20170628_082354.jpg Screenshot_20170628-055734.png Screenshot_20170628-055742.png Screenshot_20170628-055758.png Screenshot_20170628-055722.png 20170628_082455_001.jpg 20170628_082429_001.jpg 20170628_082354.jpg Screenshot_20170628-055734.png

Hi! First, I think you should ask for this post to be moved to Rocky Talky- you will get more eyeballs.

Second- Modifying just the top is going to be tricky and won't look as good. If i am understanding you correctly, you want to just lop of the top and put a new halo on?

You need to get a whole new ring setting made. Is this something you would be open too? You can get a nice halo made affordably by a few different benches. Do you have a budget in mind?

Good luck!

No, it cannot be modified to be a different shape without compromising the integrity of the ring or destroying it. You could, however, trade yours in toward a new one.

Your best bet is to find a local jeweler [with a high online rating from google or yelp] that will re-purpose everything you already have [all your gold and existing diamonds] and just have a new mold created for the new shank. Usually the cad could run $100 plus or minus, it shouldn't be that much honestly-you just need to make sure they don't try to use what you already have.

I don't think that can be modified without making an entirely new setting. What is your budget?

Unfortunately, I doubt you will be able to turn your ring into the IDJ halo or anything resembling it. You really have to start over and buy a new setting to get that particular look. Have you priced the IDJ setting? I've never used them but I understand they're fairly reasonable.

Your best bet would be to send the photos and question to Yekutiel at info@idjewelry.com. He's fabulous to work with and can give you the best answers on what is possible and what it might cost. Good luck!

Your current setting was made for a round stone, and that is why the stone can't be set low into the halo because the shape isn't the same. I'd honestly save and get a new setting. I don't think you'd save much trying to reuse the current shank and adding a new halo because of the work involved. Your new setting needs to be made to fit your diamond.

Hi Ladies! That was my fear! So I will have to wait it out then. I will satisfy my diamond craving with a new wedding band instead. Which I have already reached out to WF and ID for a Uprong.

Has anyone used Lauren B, or is there anyone that would do as good a job recreating one of their rings. Their custom made band is 3600 for this plus I would need to purchase a new diamond

Hi! I think itcan be done but I would probably rather just have the whole ring remade.
For example- I know ksmom changed the head out of her solitaire from a six prong to a bezel with a petal gallery and many people here have changed out their heads when they changed the size of their diamond. My old harmony setting used to house a smaller diamond and I had WF change out the head when I upgraded to a larger diamond.
Also, someone just posted here recently. She had a Mark Morrell solitaire and she had only the head changed out and made it into a three diamond head with all diamond halos (I think). Also, lljsmom had the head removed and made her ring into a wedding band instead.
There would be more work involved in making the halo depending on what you want but I don't see how attaching it would be any more difficult than attaching any other type of head. Although it is hard from your pictures to see how the original halo is attached. But it seems to be a peg head.
It would be worth your while to contact David Klass. Send him these pictures and ask him if he can reuse the diamonds to save you money. He might have to add more diamonds though. He is very friendly and understanding and extremely reasonable as well.
He was going to make a new head for my CVB for $450 in platinum. He also just reset my original diamond into a cushion shaped pendant with attached chain for $350.
I would contact him and see what he says. You just never know. At the very least he can make the ring you want and reuse all your diamonds and possibly even buy back the gold from you. He did that when I had him make my princess cut eternity band.

Thank you for such an informative response. I'm going to reach out to David see what his thoughts are. :)
