So I have been drooling over everyone's grey babies and decided I had to have one. Who knew they were so moody? Well I guess a lot of people.

I specifically wanted an Emerald cut since I have a setting with traps and it would be plug and play, but to work it has to be 9.5 ideally 10mm and that seems to be either really difficult or stupid expensive.

Plan B. I have some fabulous silvery spinels that would make a great halo....for a grey? Maybe, they look very close to diamonds and diamonds go with everything right?? So I am thinking maybe oval.

Someone mentioned horoscope gems on here so I asked him and he just sent me this little guy. Thoughts? Good, bad, ugly? Waiting on price

Shoot its an IG video but won't load. And I cannot for the life of me upload videos. Arghhhhhh

From what I can see - it looks pretty to me.... that faceting
I see the report says violetish grey. From the picture, I would have guessed it leaned towards a warm brownish grey - which shows how monitors differ I guess.
Do you ever see the violet in the video? If not, maybe ask for views in the lighting where that shows up, so you maybe can judge if you like it better?

So- now in seeing this with a brownish tinge I now want one a smoky one just like how I see this!
Argh - it doesnt end, does it?

The only gray that appeals to me are the lighter silvery ones. The darker ones tend to end up almost grayish black. Cut looks nice but would need straight down pics of the stone.

Thanks to you both. I am frustrated by the lack of stills from certain vendors. Are they hiding something? He says he didn't have any so I don't even know how you have a stone to sell and no way to photograph it? I like dark and moody but agree the lighter silvery ones are divine too. Too many options!

Thanks! I have been peeping Annie's page. This far all a smidge smaller that I was looking for. But I think for her reputation I may hold out

@chrono and @Rfisher
I got the full report number but nothing about clarity and after someone's post about oiling on the pear thread I'm a bit nervous.
Of course looks nothing like his photos. The lack of straight on worries me, but he sent stills.

Wow! No, no, no I haven't. I was really not feeling the fact he couldn't send me straight on photos. Unbelievable or perhaps not. Thanks so much for piping up. How the heck was going to sell a stone he didn't have?! Was he gonna turn around and insist you mail it to me? Kinda curious now

I really want to block him but not sure if it will void my refund. You should tell him you want to buy the stone and see what he does...

I’ve purchased stones from these places on ig and would recommend.
Multicolour.com
Valleyofgems on ig
Haydenfred on ig
Mr.spinel on ig
B.g. Stones on ig

Spoken to Hemi at gemcal.com who was very nice and accommodating. I would buy from him. He has a few emerald cuts that are really nice and good sized.

Bangkokgemsmarket, naturedecolours, and Zaki gems had really nice gray stones. But I didn’t buy from them because I couldn’t find any feedback available.

Hope this helps and you get your dream stone! Can’t wait to see what you find!!

You mentioned refund were you attempting to return it and is that why he was still trying to sell to OP? I’m trying to figure out what’s happening. Is the cert fake?

The cert comes up on Lotus gem lab so it is legit.

I asked him for a partial refund because I didn't want to return the stone.
This thought did cross my mind though, so I went back and re-read the conversation and I made it very clear to him that I was not willing to send the stone back and wanted to do a partial refund...

Cert is legit. I have a lot more details about the stone here!

So far everything has been going great and I got some really nice gray pieces that I love!!

Just got this one yesterday.... Wondering if that is an inclusion/fracture or signs of a synthetic stone?

For background. Vendor sent me photo of the lab report after he got it back from Lotus Gemology. It was gold, meaning that the stone is natural and there were no detections of heat treatments or enhancements. When I verified the report online, it showed that the stone was fracture filled. Lotus states that they give the person who submitted the gem a chance to clean out the oil in order to get a gold report. Same exact situation happened to me before, and the vendor was very good about it and re-sent me pics with a dated piece of paper to verify there were no changes to the appearance of the stone.

I received new video from the vendor of this gray stone and this inclusion was definitely not there. I also used a micrometer to measure the dimensions and they are exactly the same as stated on the lab report. So hopefully he didn't swap what I paid for with something of lesser quality. I'm so disappointed... I haven't seen any sort of inclusions where the gem is see through and completely lacking color so I'm interested to hear what everyone thinks....

Wait...is this the vendor everyone has been buying their "opalescent" sapphires from?

Yes! He specializes in sapphires supposedly.

Hoping some of those people will chime in here and share if they've had any strange experiences. I'm very curious.

I have bought a sapphire from him, got it certified too. It is exactly as he described it.

This is all very strange, and totally see why it is unsettling. It will definitely make me think twice about purchasing again.

He was nice enough to deal with and for the low price of the “opalescent” sapphire probably worth the risk.

Highly recommend Mr. Spinel and Haydenfred :)

I really hope that vendor just misunderstood whether @emegumi was going to return the spinel and he was just trying to line up a 2nd buyer... Cuz that's super sketchy otherwise.
