Saw your post in the new VC solitaire thread about your CAD finalizations! How's everything going? :appl:

EEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! I didn't see that!! *off to look*

link!

:wavey:

Aww, thanks Madelise for checking up on me! :wink2: Not stalkerish at all.

I actually wanted soooo badly to post on PS asking for advice on the ring and CAD process-- since this is my first time, but I got cold feet.

I labored over the CADs for a looong time. Things were just not panning out with the design the way I had hoped. Many times, I was a click away from asking for help. But something always stopped me. lol. I guess I was being "PS shy". I guess I was afraid I wouldn't get the help I needed or get lack of responses, so I figured, why bother. smh So silly.

Well, anyway, this past weekend I sent the changes I wanted for the final rendering of the CAD. They still haven't gotten back to me yet, so I'm wondering if I still have time for another change. lol

We want to see!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes we do!!

I'm also very "PS-shy" about asking for help, too. I feel like such a dunce compared to the veteran smarties we got! But I just sucked it up and posted because.. well. I'm scared of making a large $ mistake and regret not asking for help later!

If you're PS-RT-Shy, can you unshy for us LIWs? You know we love looking at bling, too!

Call your vendor to see if they've already started working on it. If they haven't, there's still time for change :)) are you working with one of the PS vendors?

Ok, so I guess I will share the gory details with you. :naughty: I just wish I had done it sooner since we are now at the end, but it feels great to be able to share it with people! Be forewarned, this may be long!

Picking a Design

Weellll, this was a loong road to get to where I am today. I'm just happy we haven't been ready to get engaged yet because those would have been some expensive re-sets.

The first ring that I fell in love with I saw here on PS yeeears ago while lurking. It was a cushion micropave halo tucked just underneath. I was mesmerized and just knew I had to have it. Next, came the tacori 2628-- "match made in heaven!!," I thought. I lusted after that one for a loong time. Finally, I dragged my SO to try it on in person, and I just wasn't as wowed in person as I expected.

The middle of my ring design journey can be found here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ring-preferences-2011-edition.164348/
After that post, I think I had then decided a solitaire would be the one for me-- timeless, elegant, SCREAMS engagement ring, no pave to worry about, can go in an US machine :naughty: , understated, but still with a presence. I started falling in love with metalwork as well.

I subsequently fell in love with many, many different solitaires. I wanted a solitaire with a "twist." JBeG's Julia modified was IT for me. I watched those videos DAILY and daydreamed about it on my finger. When I finally showed it to my SO (who usually is indifferent or says he likes anything I like), he didn't like it. :errrr: Being that I value his opinion very much, I moved onto the Vatche Swan. He reluctantly liked it, but felt it was too plain from the top view. LOL. I agreed with him.

FINALLY, after falling for the twist bands here, I found a stock solitaire with a twist band. I loved it-- solitaire with a 'twist,' visually intriguing from the top view, unique, yet still understated. best of all-- CHEAP! and no custom design process to worry over. SO loved it too! I received quotes from vendors to set it. SCORE!

BUT as I scoured the internet endlessly for IRL pics, I realized it was a hit or miss. And I only really liked it in the first pic I saw of it. Plus, I still yearned for the extended visual interest across the finger a solitaire lacked the more I looked at the eye candy here. I couldn't believe after MORE than a year looking I still couldn't settle on a setting I would be totally in love with. :nono:

The Hunt Continues...

I had to retreat and think about what I wanted in my e-ring:
- Timeless and to want to wear it forever. Didn't want to follow any specific trend or popular design, but still wanted something different.
- Low maintenance, so no pave. US-safe -- I've just always wanted to use one ever since they were popular here yrs ago lol
- Double-claw prongs
- Basket
- Platinum
- Finger coverage - also to hide any patina I may end up disliking.

I had NO clue what ring would fit what I wanted. I wanted finger 'coverage', but if I didn't want a halo or 3-stone, how could I get that?
So, I went on an aimless hunt ALL OVER the web. I decided to look at every PS vendor's site, B&M jeweler's, little known custom jewelery designers, all the major SMTB threads, pages and pages of Google images, etc. I was just hoping that one day, it would just POP out at me. I had little faith it would, though, and figured I'd just settle on the twist rope solitaire and re-set later in life, since it was so cheap. Then I wouldn't feel as guilty.

But then ONE DAY.....

I found THE ONE!

....I stumbled upon one of the many antique/estate jewelry sites I had seen in the past, and started clicking through every ring, looking for inspiration for my e-ring. An idea.. anything!
And then I found THE ONE! I couldn't believe it, but there it was! I fit EVERYTHING was looking for in a ring. I already had a stone, so i knew I would have to get it made. No PS vendor had a similar design. I was nervous about going custom, and wanted to really avoid it, but this was it! The ring I was destined to have!

:appl:

The center stone is a GORGEOUS OEC, and although I have a RB, it was PERFECT for my stone!

Off to re-size the other pics of the original....

More pics!! I even called to find out about the model's finger size and was told it was about 3.5  That made me feel better since my finger size is waay bigger at 5.75. lol

So, what do you think?

CS, that particular ring is a huge contender for me. I had that specific ring and all those images saved in my little inspiration folder. I LOVE it. I really do. The marquise on the side is so floral-y looking.

I can't wait to see yours. I am now more eager than before since it's a setting that I already am in love with!

ETA: Who's making it for you?

GREAT! I'm glad you love it, too.

So, I asked for quotes from many PS vendors, and prices were all over the place. I was surprised and disappointed with some. I was initially going to go with Whiteflash. Victoria at WF is AMAZING!!! I totally felt 100% comfortable with her, and she is meticulous and cares just as much about the ring process as you do. I definitely plan on doing other projects with her!
But, I looked at Mark's antique-inspired work on his website and went with him.

So, Mark @ ERD is doing my ring! :appl:

He has been great and really takes what I envision into account, yet still offering his expertise.

CS - it looks awesome!! I think it looks kind of flowerish on the side too! Very cool! How long will it take? What is the proposal timeline! Do you know? :naughty:

what a great journey C-S!! glad you were able to find the setting that makes your heart sing. I think I actually just saw that setting or one *very* similar over at singlestone!

Thanks! Yes, I loved the floral/leaf-y feel it had to it, too! Especially since one of my dream rings is a McClelland! (waaay over budget!)

McClelland.jpg

It's not nearly the same, but the leaf-y theme still gets me! LOL

eta: It will take about 3 weeks from the final CAD approval, I'm told. However, it's the CAD process that's been taking up so much time. I feel like once that part is over, the ring will be done in no time.

Now, the proposal is a ways off. SO wants to surprise me, so I won't know when it's coming. And he wants the proposal far out enough from this process so I'm totally surprised. Also, we agreed I wouldn't get to see the ring in person until he proposes. :errrr:

This is why I have been agonizing over it, and it needs to be right with the CAD. lol

Yes, I've seen it, too! It's funny because I've since realized this was a fairly common art deco style, and I did see it before. But, many of them were not quite the same as each other. For some reason, those designs never sung to me until I saw this ring. And, going through the CAD process, I see why. So many different elements of a ring can change its look. It takes the right combination to be the one for each person.

The stars aligned for me with this ring in so many different ways.

oh, it's beautiful!!! I can't wait what it looks like with your little spins on it!

Ok, please get him to agree to let you to SEE it before it gets stored away before the proposal!! Because you know I'll personally get offended if you don't allow me to feast my eyes on that beauty!!!  Hhehehe. :naughty: Your excuse can be that you need to confirm you don't need any additional tweaks to it later on, when it's too late after the um.. exchange policy? :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

I was SOOO tired after work yesterday I didn't get on to see this. But WOW!! I love your choice! It really does fit everything you've been looking for! Congrats CS! I can't wait to see the final product!!! :appl:

You're version is just stunning!! Any idea when the proposal is coming??

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! SQUEEE!! I can't wait until it's YOURS! :)

Thank you!

I have no idea when a proposal is coming. :|
But, I am happy this part is coming to an end, and all I have to do is wait. :))

ITS SO PRETTY!!! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE FINAL RING!!!

Cheese and rice, goats! THAT IS GORGEOUS. It's seriously TDF. I loveeee the proportions from the top-down view! If anything of it were changed, it wouldn't look the same! It's perfection!!!

I hope you get it SOON!
