I saw this in the Celebrity ring thread. Very interesting ring! Black diamond?

I saw that earlier today. It looks small and ugly IMO. At first I thought it was a sapphire and I liked the idea. I''ve never seen a black diamond IRL. Is it expensive?

Eww...not really a fan....

Cheaper than any other diamonds: Black Diamonds

You don''t have to worry about any inclusions or anything...

Do black diamonds even sparkle? What''s the appeal?

Aw, she got ripped off, poor girl! At first I thought it was just a deeply coloured diamond, but I really don''t see any appeal at all in black diamonds. Maybe this is just a stunt? I can''t believe a celebrity would settle for that.

Interesting-though I will say if any celeb would get a black diamond it would be her in my mind...one thing from the article that I found funny (and off topic) is that she said they haven''t set a date yet, they want to "take things slow"...ummm isn''t getting engaged the opposite of taking things slow?? gotta love celebs

Well, I was reading something last year about black diamonds and they were huge in Europe! I saw one setting here on PS with black diamonds and it was interesting and beautiful. I guess whatever floats peoples boats.

I think it''s great that the ring is different, but I guess I''m the only one

. This is the third time for her so why not?? I''m probably a lil biased though bc Leon is making me a black diamond wedding band... I like that it''s unique.

CR, I can't wait to see it!!! I bet it will be beautiful! I personally love cognac diamonds

I heard about it, but haven''t seen a picture yet.

I understand that diamonds aren''t for everybody--but if you''re making a statement to be different, why not just get another gemstone? Oh well.

me 2! We are holding off for a few months as the ering was a large project! But think about his three connected band rings with the airline between them, and think about it in black and white! I love cognac diamonds too! And omg I was out the other day and a mutual friend introduced me to someone who just got engaged and bought his fi a 9.5 ct pear cognac diamond, and it was halo set, no joke!!! He showed me a pic on his iphone, but I can not wait to see this thing in person!!

Leon actually has a small cognac diamond for sale on his site, and we saw it when we were there, and I really liked it! It would be a great rhr!

Yeah, I''ve seen a few black diamonds and they don''t sparkle at all-they''re just solid black. I think they''d make a cool band or maybe even a cool halo, but I wouldn''t want one for a center stone.

And if she was going with a black diamond for an e-ring and they''re super cheap, why didn''t she at least get a BIG black diamond?!

It looks like a ring you would buy on Jewelry tv at 3 am in the morning. I was kinda looking forward to something vampy: A large emerald cut black diamond with either baguettes or split shank in a Leon or Harry Winston claw prong. I''m so disappointed

Well, at least it will be a durable stone.

I love cognac diamonds. When I saw the pic that''s more what I was expecting until I read the description. I''d like to see a black diamond that size IRL, up close. So no sparkle or anything?

Right. With "wine fingers" (thanks Deco!)!!! Let's try to remember that at one time our poor Carmen was married to Dennis Rodman. That being said, I am not surprised at her taste in engagement rings. She's a little outside of what we PSr's would consider "good taste."

ETA: Just to clarify, I do want to say that I have nothing against black diamonds, but the setting plus the size/apparent shape of the center stone left much to be desired and I think she could've done better.

you''re not the only one! I too think it is super cool and different, so who cares if it''s not worth hundreds of thousands? I also love the unique!

Blech...and her FI looks like an alcoholic

Just curious...how do you "look like" an alcoholic?

I don''t know what an alchololic looks like, but he does look like he could use a good night''s rest.

Muahahaha. Good one! I wholeheartedly agree.

Well, I''ve dated a few before I discovered the extent of their drinking. This guy looks like the worst of one of them. I also have a now sober ex-alcoholic brother. They get a characteristic look around the eyes. A darkening and mottled skin. I don''t know how to explain it. I think it''s a liver thing. Actually any conditiont that really affects the liver does that, I think. It''s just the first thing I noticed about that picture of the two of them. He sure doesn''t look like he wakes up every morning for a shot of wheatgrass.

Interesting....I wish it was a better photo.

Natural Black Diamonds are a beautiful thing when nice quality gems are found, not all beautiful gemstones are transparent (Turquoise, Coral, Onyx, etc...) In regards to the "sparkle" Black Diamonds actually have a slightly higher luster than Colorless Diamonds. It can be difficult to determine if a Black Diamond is natural unless you have extensive gemological training but with that being said people are willing to pay large amounts for certified or even uncertified (from a trusted source) Natural Black Diamonds. In the same way that each person has different taste in clothes, art, mates, etc... Black Diamonds are a perfect way to express ones "true colors". Wether you wear them in a Black Rhodiumed White Gold setting to get a modern, rock/chic look, or to achieve a more old world/gothic look you can set Black Diamonds in a nice yellow or rose gold, or for the more colorfull personalitys out there they can easily be paired with vibrant gems such as Pink Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, Blue Sapphire, Yellow Diamonds, etc to create a more funky specific look. I wear a lot of Black Diamonds personally, and they are certainly not everyones preference but I think for Carmen Electra there could have been no better choice.

If you would like to see black diamonds in motion, please take a look at this video.

I''m in the minority here, but I think it''s really cool that they went with something totally unconventional. It suits them, so for that reason alone I like it. I always admire anyone who simply gets what they want - colorless diamond, black diamond, low color diamond, gemstone, no diamond at all. I appreciate the non-conformism - to each her own!

Not really my style, but to each their own. As long as she loves it, that is all that counts.
