For those people who seen the movie Lust, Caution. This is the ring. The ring itself comprises of two circles of diamonds that hug a large pink diamond in the centre. Indeed, the Chinese title of the movie is also a homonym for ‘coloured ring’. For full authenticity, the stones of the ring are also set in the same way as they would be during that era.

I haven''t seen the movie, but that ring is sooooo pretty! I love pink!

Hm. I hate to be the only one to disagree...the diamond is unbelievably gorgeous, but if I was ever lucky enough to receive it, I''d be setting that thing into a way less honking setting, asap. It totally overwhelms that diamond, IMHO.

BTW - how can you tell a pink sapphire from a pink diamond???

It does not look like a Diamond...., (based on the picture...)

It is gorgeous but I have to agree that it does not look like a pink diamond.

Well in these pictures the thing that makes me wonder is the tilt window that the pink center stone has. Diamonds usually do not get that since they have a higher RI than sapphires. Sapphires and other gemstones suffer from tilt windows.

It doesn''t look like a pink diamond to me either. It looks like it has a large window in the middle of it.

I agree. Diamiond or not though, it sure is pretty to look at.

My thoughts exactly. Love the stone, but the setting has got to go!

Love the split shank though.

I agree.. at the first glance I did think it was a pink sapphire.. perhaps this is a sapphire decoy?

I''m sort of relieved that I don''t find it attractive! I''s happily chop it up for *parts* though.

Yes, it does look like a pink sapphire but in the movie they mention that it is a pink diamond.. The ring is now in Singapore Cartier.. Maybe I will swing by and ask them.. And I have to admit that I did not like the setting the first time I saw it, but it kinda grows on me.. I forget to mention that Director Ang Lee specially asked Cartier to design and create the ring. In order to be faithful to the movie’s setting in 1930s Shanghai, Cartier examined its historical archives for custom pieces of that era, and recreated this ‘colonial-style’ design.

I don''t know how to describe it but when you compare a pink sapphire with a pink diamond side by side. The pink diamond usually has more light, reflection and sparkle.. My jeweler actually showed me the difference.
