Hi all,
Today I am researching the composition of plain, platinum wedding bands. I am comparing three vendors. I have read on this site that platinum bands are made up of 95% platinum and 5% another white metal in the platinum family with the most desirable combination being ruthenium as opposed to iridium.
Here is what I know so far. I am comparing 2 mm bands.
1. Blue Nile Comfort Fit: 95% platinum, 5% mixed metals including the same combination that Cartier quoted me. I would classify it as mid-weight after trying it on.
2. Cartier 1895: 95% platinum, 5% mixed metals which may include iridium, rhuthenium, and/or palladium. I would classify this ring as heavier than the BN band.
3. Tiffany & Co.: no percentages given on the website so I will have to call them. This ring is about the same weight or in between the weight of the BN and the Cartier band.
Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge on this subject?
