Cartier vs Tiffany vs Blue Nile Platinum Wedding Bands

Hi all,

Today I am researching the composition of plain, platinum wedding bands. I am comparing three vendors. I have read on this site that platinum bands are made up of 95% platinum and 5% another white metal in the platinum family with the most desirable combination being ruthenium as opposed to iridium.

Here is what I know so far. I am comparing 2 mm bands.

1. Blue Nile Comfort Fit: 95% platinum, 5% mixed metals including the same combination that Cartier quoted me. I would classify it as mid-weight after trying it on.
2. Cartier 1895: 95% platinum, 5% mixed metals which may include iridium, rhuthenium, and/or palladium. I would classify this ring as heavier than the BN band.
3. Tiffany & Co.: no percentages given on the website so I will have to call them. This ring is about the same weight or in between the weight of the BN and the Cartier band.

Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge on this subject?

I just ordered a 1.5 mm comfort fit solid platinum band from e-weddingbands.com. I will post photos when it arrives. My engagement ring is 1.8 mm wide.

I still plan on eventually purchasing a Cartier Etincelle eternity band (discussed in another post), but for now I like the look of this band and it makes my 1.40 solitaire pop.

It looks awesome. I like having a plain band on each side of my solitaire if you want another look.

I would wait till the summer to size. You might end up swelling and perhaps sizing beads would be more appropriate than sizing the shank if that's the case.

Yes, good ide! I am going to Florida next month so that will be a test as to how much my finger swells in the heat.

I love your 5 stone ring!
Can I ask for specs, please?

It is a cloudy day so I can’t get great pics of the stones.
