My husband''s grandmother recently told him that she wanted to give him his grandfather''s Cartier watch. I don''t know how old it is, but it''s definitely older than my husband (30 this year). I haven''t seen it yet, but in all liklihood it''s in desperate need of some attention. What should we expect to have done with it? Is there any way to determine the model on a sorta-old watch like this?

Is it absolutely best to take it to Cartier, or can another watch repair person do the work?

I''m curious, since I''ve never really been around such a piece of jewelry...

Thanks in advance!

It definitely needs to be sent back to Cartier. Probably will need an overhaul. But I wouldn''t let anyone else touch it but Cartier. Good luck, sounds like a beautiful watch!!!

Cartier has a service facility in Dallas Fort Worth. I sent my watch to be cleaned & fixed. They were the most helpful & the cheapest. They could I.D. you watch for you & give you a quote for repair. The cleaning, replacement of cracked crystal & something else minor was about $300.00 - 7 or so years ago.

Good luck & sounds like a special watch!

Thanks for the advice! F''nI... I''ll see if I can track down that repair place and *then* see if I can pry the watch from hubbie. I''m really curious to see it since Cartier makes such a variety of watches.
