Happy Friday Ladies,
I am hoping I can get some opinions...
I''ve tried on a ton of dresses and I have pretty good sense of what works for me and what doesn''t. I am an extremely picky person and it drives me nuts, but I can''t help it! I am starting to get scared that I am not going to have that "I found the ONE" moment. I''ve found some that I liked alot but nothing is measuring up to the Casablanca 1831, by far my favorite. The problem is the straps. They make my upper torso look huge. Other than that, I love every inch of the dress. Its exactly what I want. The first time I tried it on, I was told that Casablancas can be customized and if I wanted, this dress could come strapless. I was psyched! The next time I went shopping with my mom at a different store I tried it again to show her. She loved it too, but not the straps.
I asked the sales woman at the 2nd store if it could come strapless and she said no way...cause the top would flop. Now, I get what she meant, but I highly doubt that they would just cut the straps off and call the dress strapless.... I would imagine if they are customizing the dress to make it strapless, then they would make it work. I am going to call around and see what other stores say about it, but I wonder what all of you brides think..... Can it be done? Would I be crazy to order it customized like that (if its even possible) not knowing what it will look like on me..... I''m just so sad about it. I can''t find anything like it, that I like as much

I know there are similar dresses out there, but when I say I am picky, I am very serious. I love rouching (sp?), but sometimes its too thick, sometimes it looks too ''on purpose'' to me, if that makes sense, sometimes the rouching stops mid belly where I don''t want it to...it goes on and on. Its tough for me to find things that fit & look right because I am very short waisted and very hour-glass shaped. So I will def keep looking, but back to my point of this very long post (Sorry!:) Does anyone have any opinions about making this dress strapless? Thanks!

I tried on this dress at Amsale Strapless Dress and it is similar to what you are looking for. It also has a version with straps Strappy Dress which was in my top three pics of dresses. They are both beautiful dresses!! Hope this helps!

Oo, I like that dress, it reminds me of the Watters 1039B (http://www.watters.com/product.php?coll=brides&showid=667).

The bodice of the gown looks relatively simple, so what I would do is order it in the strapless and order an extra yard of fabric with the dress. If you get the dress back and you feel like some matierial needs to be added to the center of the bodice, then you could easily have your seamstress do it. The bodice of my bust is rouched and has a bunch of other details on top of the rouching and I was really worried about how it would look when it was altered. It''s perfect. I think if you find a good seamstress you can easily have the bust of your dress altered if need be.

I LOVED this dress but had the same problem with it making me look huge on top. No one ever told me that it could come strapless... maybe you could call Casablanca directly and ask them (lots of companies won''t speak directly to the customer though) or maybe just have the straps cut off and add thin spaghetti straps or more boning so that it won''t fall down. It''s a gorgeous dress... wish it would have worked out for me!

How about this?
Embrujo from Pronovias
I tried it on and it is a beautiful dress!!!

They have one with less flare to the skirt too

The only thing I dislike is the broach/pin thing. Bit it pins right on so I just took it off =)

Hi! I DO have that dress and let me tell you honey I am NOT small on top (32DD). BUT once it was altered properly it looked stunning. Far better than any of the 100 other dresses I tried. Now it by any means doesn''t minimize by bust, but I don''t look like I am falling out of it either.

And I had mine customized. No train, and no beading. And it was a rush order. Casablanca did a GREAT job and it came in super quickly. Looks perfect. A classmate of mine is getting a CB gown customized as well, so I know it can be done. I just don''t know exactly what they will/can do for each dress.

I''ll have pics of me in it in about a month if you can wait!

Mandarine, THANK YOU!! Its awesome!! I hope I can find a shop near me that has it.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Gwyn, who makes that dress? I like the one with less flare a lot!

No problem! Glad you liked it.
Just go to www.pronovias.com to check for the stores...
My dress is from San Patrick (which is part of Pronovias) and I got it at RKBridal...which saved me over 50%.
The flower on that dress is optional. I loved it, but I know many girls don''t like it and they just don''t put it on.
