Another recent thread got me thinking about kitty toys. A poster there mentioned this cool-looking toy Cheese Chase Cat Toy that I had never seen before. And of course, it looks like something Boo will just HAVE to have!

BUT, before I place any order(s), I thought I''d bring the topic up to our CTC (Cat Tribal Counsel

)for additional suggestions, etc.

Boo has loads of toys and I rotate them because he does tend to get *bored* with them otherwise. But one toy that he NEVER gets bored with, and that I would have to call his "favorite" toy is the Da Bird feather wand toy. It''s the coolest toy, you can really make it look like a bird is flying around the room. He always goes NUTS and will leap and jump and pounce for that toy. And you can also get "refill" feathers, that''s nice!

So, cat parents... what are your recommendations for "must have" toys?!

Thanks!
Lynn (and Boo)

laser pointer, hands down!

He''ll run after that thing until he''s exhausted.

Pearls RARELY plays with any store bought toys. I''ve pretty much stopped buying them. She prefers balled up pieces of paper, strings with something tied to them, and tipping over cups of water. I seriously can''t get her to play with anything that is made for her to play with.

OMG Lynn - I love that picture. TOO CUTE

Favorite toys in our house are:

1. a relative of the Da Bird, only with a suede tassel or a pouf of fine feathers on the end - they didn''t care for the regular feathers, but seem to enjoy both of these.

2. little mylar "crinkly balls" infused with catnip - my little calico goes nuts for these (do put them away at bed time though or the noise will drive you nuts).

3. the laser pointer (of course) - except for Ollie, who usually isn''t quite *quick* enough to figure it all out, poor dear

4. small, plus, catnip-infused mice - these are a favorite of our orange tabby. She can happily wrestle one on her own for quite some time. Unfortunately is often hard to find the same brand twice, and she loves some brands but doesn''t go in big for others. If I find a reliable supplier, I''ll let you know

Cat Dancer is Zoe''s favorite. And for non-toy toys, twist ties, bottle caps and drinking straws are all favorites too.

I shouldn''t even be here since I''m at work but couldn''t resist. Tied for #1 are aluminum foil balls, da bird, laser light, and the whirly gig mouse thingy in the pic for those days when you don''t feel like twirlin'' da bird. This toy twirls itself

Oh, and before I get back to work, Lynn you are a baaad influence, I''m thinking of getting the exercise wheel for the savannah kitten. Have I lost my mind or what.

Play with her with ANYTHING on a stick, and she will do all kinds of crazy gymnastics for hours at a time! It got to a point where she was waking my DH up in the middle of the night by dragging in the stick toy, then standing over him and meowing, just to get him to come play with her. And of course he''d do it.

My cat loves those little fake mice and anything else small that he can bat around and toss up in the air. I think his favorite toy is anything on a string, I swear he would jump and twist in the air all day long if we stood there long enough!

Nothing store bought. The plastic rings off milk jugs and my hair rubber bands.

One of my kitties LOVES plastic industrial twine. The kind people use on packing or fencing. I'm not sure why, but she loves to carry it around. If I stuff it into an empty paper towel tube, you'd think she'd died and gone to kitty nirvana. The other one really likes Pawbreakers (solid catnip ball they bat around and lick) They both also like sponge bouncy balls and that little plastic pull off the top of a gallon of milk.

My Emma disdains the store bought toys. But give her a plastic ring from a milk jug, and she's in seventh heaven!

(Her alternate name is Boo, too!)

Isn''t that funny?!? I used to spend money on toys....now no way. They ignore everything else.

Lynn that pic is gorgeous!!

I get a lot of the girls' toys from this company: http://sunnica.com/OrganicCat.html . I've linked just to the cat toy page but they've got great other stuff too. Holly loves a catnip carrot I got her that has feathers for the green leafy part of the carrot. She also loves the organic catnip mice. Her favorite toy is not really a toy...it's these. http://www.americarx.com/Products/31547.html?source=googleps We play fetch with them.

For some reason Sunnica doesn't carry these anymore, but I used to get them from there and Holly carries it around with her and licks it to death. They're washable and refillable. http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/products/Shelby-the-Hemp-Mouse-Cat-Toy/284000.aspx

Chloe goes BERSERK for these balls. She hates every single other toy I have ever gotten her in 11 years.

ETA: I also get these treats from Sunnica for Holly http://sunnica.com/WholelifePetTreats.html. They are freeze dried chicken pieces and I just run them under warm water for a few seconds to rehydrate them. Kitties don't need the carbs and fillers that come in most treats, so I feel good about giving her these.

My cats'' favorite toy is the Yeowww! Banana. They go freakin BERSERK over that thing.
The company makes a few other products but so far I''ve only been able to find the Banana and the Cigar (which I find sort of creepy in a former presidential kind of way...

)

Anyway...here''s the link http://www.veeenterprises.com/DuckyworldNP.htm

Also check out Youtube for some videos (just type in Yeowww Banana) for some cats in action. Hilarious!!!!

*eta about the rabbit fur mice with leather strap tails.. please cut those off before giving them to your cats.. My Meghan died because she chewed all of the tails off and they DO NOT DIGEST. After time, they created a mass inside her and she ultimately died because of it. :*( My Camille was her first born kitten, Meghan lasted just long enough to give birth and wean the kittens before she died. I was devestated.
OMG San Diego Lady - THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! Such a good point! I totally have a whole package of these mice for my babies and I never thought of that! I''m going to cut the tails off as soon as I get home!!!!!

Pens and pencils, golf balls, ping-pong balls, empty toilet paper rolls, and the cap from a bottle of vitamin water.

I bought one of those toys attached to a stick, and he only wants to attack the stick (and by extension, my hand). My friend brought over a laser pointer, and he only wanted to attack the pointer (and by extension, her hand). The things he''s *supposed* to play with just aren''t any fun. Although he does have a stuffed fabric mouse and a ball with feathers attached that he likes sometimes, but playing with those doesn''t hold nearly the appeal of batting a golf ball against our bedroom door at 2AM!

The little beastie also made things difficult during finals because every pen and pencil MUST be stolen and poked under the rug until he can''t reach it anymore, and sheafs of paper are OBVIOUSLY hiding things that shouldn''t be allowed to live. Who cares if Octavia is trying to take notes, and will have to reassemble 400+ chewed-up pages in the morning?

Favorate cat toy..... Da Bird!!!! They love this thing, they think it is real. I can get one of my cats to do back flips over it!!!!

They also love toy mice, but they eat them up, so I no longer buy them

Also, the plastic ball with a bell in it (but they always get it under the coffee table)

Non cat toys they love...the plastic seal from the milk cap, nail files, soda tops, pens.

Oh and Christmas ordiments that look like birds. These are their all time favorates. I learned this the hard way when the started pluking them off my tree. Now I just buy them a couple at Christmas and hang it on the wall and let them figure out how to get it down.

One of them also loves to watch TV. She will sit on the coffee table and just stare.

Where do you buy these? Maybe I"ve lost my mind too but with 3 indoor bengals and one tabby (who struggles with his weight) we''ve been considering this as well.

DOH! in my excitement I failed to process the URL in the image LOL.

Those are awesome. My breeder had them and her kitties seemed to enjoy going for "runs".

I have a ten month old kitten and her favorite toys are plastic balls in the shape of the pink and yellow ones on the left. I use them to play fetch with her everyday.

She also has a two story nylon house, made out of three nylon cubes, a scratch pad, the paper kind, toy mice, she loves them but she loses them under the refrigerator, a glove with bells and fur balls on the fingertips, other plastic balls, including one that lights up, I think that's it.

Adorable cats Lynn B and Kismet!
