I''ve no idea of the value but it is really nice.

Does it show the milk and honey effect when lit from the side?
Also, the eye doesn''t seem to be very sharp. Is that just the photo?

The color is pretty but it looks more opaque than translucent. And I agree with LD, the eye doesn't look very sharp.

To give you an idea, last year at the gem show one of the dealers had a 4ct cat's eye, flawless, translucent (you could read through it) and it had a lovely sharp eye and really nice milk & honey effect. He was asking $400/ct for it. I don't know how much bargaining room was in that price because I didn't attempt it. He also had a similar 6 carat one there too which he wanted (I think) $2000/carat for.

ETA: I bought a 1 carat one that looked similar to yours and that was around $115.

I take it you are buying the entire ring? If so, you’ll also need to know the total carat weight of the diamond accents, colour and clarity. Is the metal white gold or platinum? As for the cat’s eye, the eye seems broad and the stone is opaque rather than translucent in the photographs.

no clue re value, but it''s really cool looking!

here is the cert..

Thanks for your sample cats eye price..
probably anyone can give me better estimate with those pic i just post..

anyone plz ??

Cat''s eyes, like the creatures they come from, are very difficult to know. Have you looked at the inventories of some of the better online gemstone vendors to gauge the relative pricing of similar stones? May we know how much your friend is asking for the ring? Also do you have any idea what was paid for it originally or where it comes from/ who made it?

Please take it to an appraiser for an estimation of its value. It is very pretty, and seems like it is definitely a hefty piece. To estimate at home, you''ll need to know the carat weight of the diamonds, gold karat, weight of gold, and cost of a chyroberyl of similar size and quality. There''s no way to offer an estimate through a picture.

Perhaps you could just ask him/her what he/she paid?

Thanks for your advice..
he is asking for around usd 5500.. probably i can bring it down to 5200..
he said he bought the ring for more than that, but there no way i can know for sure..

Anyone think 5200 to 5500 is a fair price for this?

I tell my friend im cancelling and then he said he is selling me the ring for 5000..
he said its last offer n has to confirm today...
anyone think the price is fair???

IT is really beyond the scope of this forum to value something like this, especially with so little information to go on.
If it were me personally potentially buying it I would want to know the provenance, where it was sold first who made it. I would want a certificate from a competent gemological lab for the stone, the karat of the gold and its weight, same for the diamonds. Then I would want to think about whether I even like the ring or is it just the sum of its parts. were you looking for something like this or are you really just helping out a friend who needs cash. I would make him a loan if I were comfortable with that, rather than buy something that I couldn''t adequately verify and didn''t really want anyway. If you still want to know more about its value you really must take it in for a proper appraisal.

Thanks for your advice vapid..
i have bought the ring
im not buying it to help out a friend but i love this stone n ring. the longer i see, the stone looks more beautiful.. haha

It''s a beautiful ring, and I think the price is fair.

That's a substantial amount of cash for a chrysoberyl that looks pretty average to me. The eye isn't even that sharp. However, I'm just judging it from a photo. I would never spend thousands on a ring without getting it evaluated by a neutral third party gemologist who understands the gem species very well.

I like how the lab report is labed AGL, but it's not the real AGL. Tsk tsk. Something fishy is afloat, and if it were me, I would pass on it.

Are you buying it for the cat''s eye Chrysoberyl OR for the ring OR for both? Which is it that you wanted valued.

To get an idea of the price of a Chrysoberyl that virtually the same size of yours, look here:

http://www.ajsgems.com/cats-eye-chrysoberyl-gemstone-chrysoberyl-2046340426.html

Now I very rarely say that I think AJS have over-priced something but in this case I think $3800 is far too much for this. Let''s just say you were to buy this though (and this is from a Vendor, not a friend), you''d then have $1200 to spend on a setting.

If you look here you''ll see a few in the 5ct range and you''ll also see that the pricing varies dramatically because the colour, sharpness of cat''s eye etc, all play a part. What we can''t tell you from your photos is how your friends ring compares because photographs are not good to judge by.

Personally I think the ring is very expensive and I wouldn''t pay $5k BUT if you love the ring and feel that the price is fair then you should get it, otherwise you may regret it.

i have checked the ring with a neutral third party who said that the ring without the stone would cost at least 2.5k
he is not an expert in gemstone, therefore he cant give me an appraisal for the gem.
