So after yyyyears of training, I am soon to finally graduate from the last level of my medical training. I also turned 30 this year. So to commemorate both I wanted to celebrate with a bigger bling project. I wanted a wide intricate diamond band and lucked out in finding one on a budget, and still have enough to buy this 1 ct (technically .988ct) diamond second hand.

It is a branded Celebration cut from Zales. I wasn't sure I'd like it, and in comparison to my OEC and ideal cut MRB, I like the makes on both of those better than this cut. But I also like having unique stones at good price points and it is by no means ugly. There is a lot of scintillation and a more splintery kind of sparkle, it's certainly quite bold and bright. At certain angles it reminds me of a flower or a windmill.

It is G color, SI2 and I attached the report that shows a diagram of the cut. I also attached the one for my current pendant stone which is a .72 ct AGS0 diamond for comparison.

I would like combine my current pendant stone with my new celebration stone to make a slide pendant that can also double as a slide bracelet charm. I love versatile jewelry! And I sometimes like to wear other pendants but would still like to be able to rock the diamonds another way without layering.

If anyone has tips, ideas, or design input please let me know!

Here is an example of a convertible slide bracelet charm/pendant I have to give an example.

Also a sketch of what I'm thinking of now. Which is white gold bezels on both, with a yellow gold base.

Thoughts?

Congrats on med school milestone and 30th birthday! The Celebration cut is interesting. If you bezel it, won't the bezel cover up too much of the interesting faceting on the crown? In some pics like this one, the facets look soft and kind of swirly and in other pics it's not as evident to me. Could just be my old eyes but if those facets are unique, seems that a band of metal around the stone would mask the uniqueness of the cut.

I would not purchase a stone from Zales. You could get more for your money if you buy something unique from JBG or LAAD? Just my opinion.

What an unusual flowery diamond! I haven't seen anything cut like that before! It's super pretty!

@queenie Don't worry, I bought the diamond second hand and not from zales. I've never bought any stones or jeweler at retail from chain stores like that. Pricescope has taught me better ;). I may pick up a chain now and then when they have a clearance sale though.

@alex. Thanks! I am very intrigued by the cut! I mostly collect colored gems which affords me a lot more cut options which aren't usually available in diamonds due to costs. So I wanted to take the opportunity to own a unique and not often seen diamond cut.

Here's more doodles of what I have in mind. I also want to make modular add on charms with some of my loose colored gems that I can attach to the bottom of the slide bar for a danglier look for those lower cut summer dresses ;)

I'm also excited to work with my favorite custom jeweler again. She made my 5 stone trellis ring in the above photo and did the bezel on the OED for the van craeynest ring. She's also made numerous stackers for me and my sapphire trillion ring. Usually she does the work by hand but we will use CAD for this project for a more clean and polished look.

Are you looking for input? I don't think the celebration cut diamond goes well with the pendant diamond.

Not input in the stones no. More the pendant design.
I like the contrasting stones but understand it's not for everyone. :)

Pendant design looks interesting. But the Celebration cut, I'm not all that keen on the faceting of the stone. Am sure that it looks beautiful in jewellery store lighting but to my eyes, it looks dull. But each to their own.

On the other hand, congrats at the soon-to-be graduation from your medical training! All that hard slog will have been worth it! :)

If you want to play up the contrast, maybe you could set the two stones slightly differently? White/yellow gold, bezel/prong, milgrain/no milgrain, maybe even a halo on one... Also, I agree with Matata that you'd need to make sure the unique outer facets on your new diamond aren't covered by the bezel - can your jeweller make the bezel so it doesn't wrap too far over the top of the stone?

It's hard to capture the stone because I think the cut is designed to maximize scintillation. Not something that still photos do justice. Also I already own MRBs and Oecs. Not a fan of rose cuts or transitional or step cuts. I thought about a pear but this seemed cooler to me lol.

The edges of it are actually not particualrly uniquely cut, it may be just an effect from the still photos. Nevertheless the jeweler I work with knows how neurotic I am about delicate bezel work.

I though about contrasting mixed metals but wondered if it would end up looking too chaotic.

Something to bring up with your jeweler, since you said you are very particular about bezel work: you have had your modified Van Craeynest ring listed on Loupe Troop for a long time. I considered pouncing on it but ultimately decided against it because the stone is not set symmetrically. It's turned. I know it is a challenge for setters to bezel-set stones symmetrically, but it might help them to concentrate more if you tell them it's important to you.

Thanks tourmaline.
Could you elaborate on it not being set symmetrically? Maybe I"m not as particular as I thought, but I don't see it. :eh:

If you look at the ring head-on, you will see that the table is dialed a little clockwise in comparison to the ring shank.

Congratulations MTG!!! Final level of med training and 30th birthday are 2 biggies definitely worth celebrating!!!

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
