we are planning on using cake plates with domes as our centerpieces. we have two sizes of cake plates - large : 13 inches and small : 11 inches in diameter.

the tables diameters are :

8 round top - 60" <-- will use the large cake plate
6 round top - 48" <-- will use the large cake plate
4 round top - 42" <-- will use the small cake plate

FI is worried that there won''t be enough room on the tables for the basic settings and two bottles of wine. i am wondering if there is a recommended centerpiece size? i''ve searched on the internet but can''t find any info on this. does anyone know?

here is a picture to give you an idea of what they look like. the florist will probably be decorating the domes with flowers and ribbon.

WOW that''s a great question. And I have no idea. I''ve never considered that my centerpieces would be to wide. Can you go to your venue with a couple o similarly sized platters or something and check? Not that much help, I''m thinking. Sorry.

thanks gypsy, we may have to but trying to avoid it cause we''ve made so many trips plus it is hard to tell without all of the settings in place on the table i think.

i''m just worried now cause we saw the big ones on sale and so went ahead and grabbed 14 of them and were really relieved to have found them and to be able to knock it off the list but now i''m just second guessing. i am hoping the florist might be able to help give some advice too. but just wondering what other''s experiences might be.

Does it sound stupid to mark off a 60 round space on the floor and block it out from there?

doesn''t sounds stupid! buuuut, i was hoping to get real life experience :). i''ll just see what the florist says. thanks!

No problem. Sorry I couldn''t be more help!

I agree that you should ask the florist. It might also help to call and ask them at your venue. The florist might usually only do certain sizes of centerpieces (out of habit, preference, etc), while the venue manager has probably "seen it all", so to speak. Also, the venue manager should have an idea of what their table settings actually entail (assuming they do all of that and you aren''t renting/hiring a caterer). Good luck!!

gypsy - no, you were very helpful! just made it clear that this is a difficult question and prob need to ask the "experts"

ladyciel - duh, good suggestion to ask the venue! i think i''ve lost a few brain cells with all of this wedding planning
