do I really need to have 3 differents songs ?

1- bridal party

2- bride

3- exit

am i even forgetting one ?

also, is anyone picking there own song? we are thinking of breath me by sia for my walk and our exit.

You might actually need one more if you''re doing any kind of unity candle/sand ceremony thing during your ceremony. I always find it so sweet when the bride and groom whisper to each other after they light their unity candle. About the only intimate time you get during the ceremony.

Check out Dave Barnes...I love his wedding songs..would LOOOOVE to use them but a lot of our dear friends used his songs in their weddings this past summer.

We had pre-service music as well, so we had a lot of music. While guests were waiting, we had about seven or eight songs.

After that we picked all of our own songs...

Bridal party entered to "From Where I Am" by Enya.

I entered to "All I Ever Wanted" by Jim Brickman, which was the SINGLE most important ceremony selection to me. I had always imagined coming down the aisle to something special, and I''d heard that song years earlier and knew then it was "the song".

And e left to "100 Years" by Five for Fighting. Our pianist recommended something "peppy" for people to leave to.

We had half an hour of classical organ music before the ceremony.

Prelude - Engima Variation No. 9 'Nimrod' - Sir Edward Elgar

Processional - The Planets, Theme from 'Jupiter' - Gustav Holst

Signing of the Register - Playing Love from 'Legend of 1900' - Ennio Morricone
- Highlight of my Life - Dolly Parton

Recessional - Nellie the Elephant - Ralph Butler/Peter Hart

I didn't want people to know what our recessional was so I just called it 'Opus 1956' on the Order of Service.

The music was one of the hardest things to choose - DH and I only finalised the choices 10 days before the ceremony.

For the Processional, I had the bridesmaids go first and then me and my father once they had reached the front - I had a reasonably long aisle and the music was about the right length (ended about 15-20 seconds after I reached the front). If you have a separate piece for the bridal party, do thing about how long the music is - especially if it's pre-recorded/ipod etc - as you don't want to stand there for 3 minutes waiting for it to end, and it looks odd if you just cut it suddenly.

I only have flowergirls and my MOH for the bridal party, so I''m using the same music for them and my processional. The music gets more dramatic partway through, that''s where I wll come in.

Unless you're having a religious ceremony that has restrictions on what kind of music you can use, you're pretty much free to do whatever you want with music. You can use the same song for the processional and recessional if you like (wouldn't be my choice, but to each their own). And I think there's nothing wrong with using the same song for the bridal party and yourself.

My music is all pre-recorded (the DJ is doing both the ceremony and reception). The ceremony is entirely hammered dulcimer music; I play the dulcimer, so that's why I chose it. I have about 30 min worth of pre-ceremony music. Then for the processional, I'm using a medley of 2 songs put together for the bridal party and me. I'm planning on coming in when it segues into the second part. There will be a vocal piece sung by my friend and accompanied by a dulcimer track. I'm also going to have a song to be played softly in the background during vows/rings (we're not doing a unity candle or signing of the certificate). Finally, we'll recess to a more upbeat piece.

ETA: If you really wanna get into it, here's an example...my FI's brother's wedding this weekend included a separate piece for the officiant/groom/groomsmen's entrance from the back and the mothers' procession, then a second piece for the bridesmaids, and a third for the bride and her father. There were also hymn-like pieces sung with the congregation and a sung piece for the signing of the register. The recessional didn't actually happen because of an ipod issue, but they had something planned for that too.

We kept it pretty simple - we only had Pachelbel''s Canon for our processional: bridal party AND us, and for our recessional we had the Sleeping Beauty Waltz. We had a string quartet playing for about a half hour prior to the ceremony start.

bridal party - #34 dave matthews band (lots of meaning for us as a couple)
me - sea of love by cat power (we''re having a beach wedding)
exit - two step - dave matthews band

still not sure what we''ll have when we are ''announced'' at cocktail hour - FI wanted welcome to the jungle by guns and roses, but i want something else...we''ll see how that goes
