Channel Set Eternity: Princess or Round Brilliant?

I have fallen in love with the idea of an eternity (or half or three quarter) band in either white gold or platinum, not too thin but not chunky. I would wear it alone, not paired with en engagement ring. love the modern look of princess diamonds in this setting but have read here that round brilliants in channel
settings will sparkle more. A reputable local jeweler I’ve worked with before can source princess cuts and work with me to make the ring I want. However, they DO have a channel set full eternity with round brilliants that I tried on and just love (and can’t stop thinking about). Should I go with the RBs since I know I love everything about the ring instead of running the risk of not liking a custom design? (Plus: The RB full eternity is a size too large. Perhaps they can add beads so it fits now but could be removed if my ring size changes?) Thanks for the guidance! I’ve learned so much stalking these boards the past few days!

Have you tried on a similar band with princess cuts? Maybe there's a local store that has both types of bands so you can try them on at the same time and see if you prefer the sparkle of rounds.

Get a band you know you love. Have you looked at bead set round brilliant? To me, they seem a little
safer than channel set but looks just as nice (actually better IMO).

These are bead set...they have side rails like a channel but have little beads of metal that hold the stones in.

Do not have something custom made without trying on a ring very similar to what you want. I dont understand why you would even
have one custom-made? You should be able to find them (round or princess cuts) at many on-line vendors. When you have
something custom made they almost always are NON returnable. So if you dont like it or it didnt turn out the way you want, you are
out of luck.

Check out Adiamor too...they have a pretty large selection

I have a 3mm full eternity with princess cuts & it’s such a sentimental old treasure. Whilst the diamonds are cut beautifully, they definitely offer a different kind of sparkle to MRB & are more subtle.

I echo the others in getting what you truly love. For me, if I had my time again I would have suggested MRB’s to Mr T instead of princess cuts. I no longer have my original princess cut engagement ring & wear a classic Tiffany MRB instead, so the princess cuts do add visual interest, but they are most definitey quieter.

I would go with rounds. Look for a preloved Tiffany and Co channel set with round brilliants. I am all about not going for brand name but this is a band I just think T&Co does so well so I would look as I think you can find them pretty frequently on the preloved market.

Get the ring you know you love. Beads or sizing bars always an option.

Thank you! And, yes, that's definitely what I'm leaning toward! The jeweler also offered to bring in some rings that better fit what I wanted but are the same width as the ring I fell in love with. For example, I would prefer a half eternity, but the ring they have at the store that I love happens to be a full eternity. I think that's a good compromise!

Thanks to your brilliant suggestion, I did so earlier today:-) I think I do prefer the way that round brilliants sparkle.

I never heard of bead set! What a beautiful concept. The ones you linked to are both described as pave; are all bead set rings pave? (And PLEASE forgive my ignorance!)
As for ordering online, I prefer to shop at a local BM store for this. I live in Philadelphia right near Jewelers' Row and have a relationship with 1 shop in particular that I want to patronize. However, I greatly appreciate the guidance of not going custom unless I know exactly what I'm going to get. I have now nixed that idea. The store has offered to bring in some pieces that match what I want, though, which I think is a good compromise.

Thank you for sharing your ring! I adore your set together and completely agree that the 2 different kinds of stones add some stunning visual interest. I really appreciate the photo and adore your rings:-)

I LOVE Tiffany and have quite a number of their pieces (including the mini Victoria diamond earrings---swoon!). I did see that they currently offer some gorgeous RB channel set rings (https://www.tiffany.com/search/?q=channel). I will definitely keep them in mind. I should have thought of them before---I just visited the store on Saturday and purchased the rose gold lock ring!

I have the Tiffany 3mm channel set diamond band in yellow gold. It was the only channel set band that I found that really gave me the look I wanted. Channel set allows the full area of each diamond to be seen and more importantly, the edges of the channel set are thin and not large and bulky. I have had and worn this ring for many, many years with no issues at all. Tiffany definitely has this style band down pat! If you enlarge my avatar, you can get an idea of what I am talking about. I don't think I have a picture of the band by itself.

I bought the 2.5mm platinum channel set back in 2011 and I still love it just as much after 13 years. I bought it new but I have seen some pretty good deals on them on the preloved market. Don't know what ring size you are but someone here was selling one recently I think. It was a half band though I think and 3mm. Mine is a half eternity.

Well, I call all small diamonds pave (or you can use the term melee). Unfortunately, there aren't always consistent naming conventions
used between different vendors :-( .

Here is a link to different ways pave can be set...scroll way down to where it says Melee.

Can I ask what jeweler you like in Philly?

That band is exquisite! Are the stones round brilliant?

Thank you so very much for this link! I've seen melee used but wasn't sure what was meant.

Can I ask what jeweler you like in Philly?

Of course! D'Antonio and Klein.

Do you have a favorite Jewelers' Row shop?

I have a channel set band with princess cuts. It also has round pave on the side. The rounds sparkle more. I say go with what you love, it seems like you've already fallen for something. I know I've had ideas of custom designs in my head and then ended up feeling meh when they were complete.

Yes, they are. Rounds generally give you the most sparkle factor. I was looking for a new band, but not necessarily a channel set band. Happened to be in Tiffany and just tried this one along with others. I was shocked at how much I loved it! It is the design of this band though that really won me over. Thin edges which allowed the diamonds to sparkle to their max. No problem with the diamonds eating into the engagement ring either. I have worn it every day for about 13 years with no issues whatsoever.

Tiffany bands are really great as they should be I guess; they have been making them for many years and they truly are refined in my opinion. Many of them can be found preloved as well making them more affordable.

Do you have a favorite Jewelers' Row shop?

I really don't. I haven't really worked with them except for little things. We recently had a nice experience with Sydney Rosen. He set my new sapphire in a ring my husband inherited. I am always looking for recommendations. Thank you!!

Resolution! The jeweler brought in a few channel set full and half eternity rings in white gold for me to try with both princess and round brilliant diamonds. My favorite remained the ring I originally tried on that was made at the store. Full eternity, 26 round brilliant diamonds, 1.82 carat total, VS2/SI1 clarity range, G/H in color. It’s also a size too large, so I can still wear it even if my size changes. I’m currently wearing it on my middle finger instead of the ring finger, and I really like the look. Thanks for your help and guidance from a total diamond neophyte!IMG_0446.jpeg
