I popped into my local gem shop today to poke around and ended up with this pretty Ceylon sapphire.IMG_20210320_131233766.jpgIMG_20210320_134822.jpgIMG_20210320_135018.jpgoIMG_20210320_134911.jpg

And I also adopted this funky 1.91 light blue Ceylon. It is included and wonky, but it needed a good home!

And if course I got to talking with the owner who showed me her stunning 18k rainbow sapphire bangle. Photos do not do this bracelet justice. It was smashing in real life.

And she also showed me her newly acquired 5 ct. Mandarin garnet heart. It looked like neon Orange Crush. Once again, the photos are lacking, as the color was fabulous.IMG_20210320_135111.jpg

This is the place. Cases and cases of gems of every kind. I could spend hours here.

Wow! Glad there is nothing like that near me!

Anybody who loves gems and minerals will fall into this place and never want to leave.
They have 2 of those revolving cases filled with sapphires of every color and price point. One whole case is emeralds. One is ruby. Several are just tourmaline. It is a crazy gem paradise.

The sapphires are drawn to you lately! So pretty! Also what an awesome place, wish we had that here in CT!

This is the first place we are going to when you come to visit.
And bring a box of tissue, cause you will weep over the gems in these cases.
The owners go to Tucson every year to stock their shop.
They have $5 sapphires and $5000 sapphires. Makes me realize the mark-up on gems and finished jewelry.

Wowza some PSers on the CS forum may want to hire you as their personal shopper!

You took the words right out of my mouth. That would be like having a sugar addiction and living near a giant bakery!

It's about 3 miles from my house.........
So I try to limit my visits because I want everything!
It's a very dangerous place for me!

Cute little sapphire...

To make matters worse, there are two jewelers on the same block.

The gem shop also sells all the gold and silver semi mounts, prong heads, etc. So you can pick out your stones and mounting and walk over to the jeweler and have your piece made.

Your necklace look beautiful on you!

You are a not only a jewel magnet, but a pretty awesome stone setter too :) I love how you find the coolest things!

Hey, thanks for the compliment!
The pre-made settings don't always cooperate with the stone!
There is a fair amount of adjustment that needs to happen for the stone to be seated properly. Sometimes these sapphires are just cut way too deep, and require a custom made setting. Luckly, this one worked out OK.

That's such a pretty stone! And the shop looks like it could be dangerous :)

Yes, very dangerous. I went in expecting to spend $30 on a small basket setting for a ring I'm working on.
But I spent $95 on sapphires and some other odds and ends. On a whim! It's like a candy store, I just can't stop myself.

Lol I feel like this set up wasn't a coincidence. It'd be such a brilliant business strategy. One stop shopping. Man, I'd "swing by" there all the time if I had something like that near me!

Also, the sapphire is such a pretty shade of blue! Congrats on a great find.

A beautiful bright and open blue color. It looks fabulous as a pendant.

Love your new necklace, wouldn't have dreamed that was a $35 sapphire! I get into enough trouble online without having tempting gem shops close by IRL, lol ;-)

Yes, $35---can you imagine? What a deal.
When I see what some online gem dealers (Instagram) are charging for similar stones, it makes me ill that they are ripping people off.
I'm very happy that I have access to this shop.

I'd be like, "oh, I'm gonna ride my bike for exercise" as an excuse every day and just oh, you know, stop over there to catch my breath before the ride home.
