My chrysoberyl has just arrived from Tan. I LOVE the amazing, neon color! The shape, cut and sparkle are nice. The only complaint I have is the window right in the center. I'm really going to have to be careful when setting it to try to minimize that window.

So first, what do you think of the stone? Second, how do you suggest mounting it to minimize the window?

Very pretty Uppy! I really liked that one sattelite looking halo that lan.bo4 had. I think that would definitely minimize the window. I posted it on your other thread when you first bought that stone and you wanted setting opinions. I'm thinking about getting it for my one carat chrysoberyl.

Do you think this would minimize the window? I though maybe I needed more of an enclosed bottom?

Like this concept of an enclosed basket to close the window.

Definitely. I don't think the window is too bad. My 3 carat cushion has a small window too, but it's been visually removed since I set it in a halo. That's a large halo, lots of metal, which I think is so attractive for lighter stones like yellows, light pinks, etc. . . It really makes them pop even more than a regular prong setting I think.

I don't think you need to go to that extent, and if you did, don't forget it might be a nightmare to get clean. I find a dirty pavilion is not very helpful with lighter stones. JMO.

re the later picture with a basket: said basket will interfer with light coming through the stone...and back out again. while trying to minimize the window, you may lose some of the rich color. always a tradeoff. personally, the window would bother me. but i'm more sensitive than most to them.

i do like this setting as it is an unusual way to achieve the popular halo efffect. once set i'm not sure the window would be as noticeable or bothersome even to my eye.

Thanks, MZ!

Different view on the setting. The oval ring setting (with the swirly whirly bits - which I also want!), won't minimise the window because there's no real basket under the gem. The only way I've ever successfully minimised a window was by having a basket underneath. This one is open so I don't think will work. The pendant is a bit TOO enclosed but both LOGR and Lanbo4 have settings with a mid type of basket.

Oh sorry, forgot to say - nice Chryso!

I agree that something needs to be under the stone. Try a bit of tinfoil around the edge and then under the stone to see what the effect is.

All these nice photos have also increased my interest in this stone, but I'll wait a bit longer...I hope more of the nice ones show up here.

Laura, that was a terrific suggestion! I took a picture in my tin foil bezel and the window is no problem at all. YAY!!

Best idea EVER!!! why hadn't I thought of it??? I had tried wrapping my head around what Col. Mustard will look like bezeled... you solved my conundrum! A lifetime of thanks!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Of course it was not my idea...read it here somewhere a while back, it was so interesting it stuck in my head...really cool to see it implemented!

That looks so cool! Big kudos to the originator of the idea. :appl:

Edited to add that I am a bit amazed to see it disappear with nothing underneath...

That is a great idea Laura! I gotta put that in my memory bank! Uppy, that is gorgeous! I think it will look rather extra terrestrial in that first setting! Really unique!

I just got a really reasonble quote for this mounting from the etsy vendor Baxter Moerman. I'm seriously considering going the minimalist route.

Uppy, that is gorgeous! And I'm saying that as someone who tends to do the whole diamond halo/sidestone/pave thing. Go for it!

from an avowed minimalist the last setting is the best

the tinfoil suggestion is shear genius!

I think the last setting will be perfect for it! Less is more!!!

Uppy,
My halo for my chrysoberyl does not have a closed back, and the window still went away. Not sure if that helps you with your decision, but I thought I'd mention it.

The colour is so lovely!!! Can't wait to see it set into the ring. :)

I love the color and I love that last setting! I'm hoping to do one like that sometime as well.

Fabulous color in your chrysoberyl, Uppy  And it's exciting that it looks like you don't have to worry about that window, either.

I love the swirly halo setting, but the simple one is beautiful as well. The stone has such presence that it would look nice in that bezel setting.

adore it.
adore the minimalist setting.

I think it would look really nice in rich yellow gold, but I'm kiinnnnnda curious about green gold!

Green gold would be completely cool! I'll have to ask the jeweler if that's an option.

I never knew that a basket would help reduce windowing. Wow, I'm thinking I have some stones to reset...

Very pretty stone! :appl: My vote is for the beautiful bezel setting.
I also love the idea of using green gold.. If my memory serves me right, Mochi's beautiful asscher chrysoberyl was bezel set in green gold...

The colour of your stone is beautiful and thanks for showing the pic of it in the foil, it's interesting to see the difference in the window and if you can achieve that with the bezel setting it's going to look fantastic. Chrysoberyl seems to be flavour of the moment but with that kind of colour combined with the stones durability, it easy to see why.

I really like the minimal settings myself...go for it!
