#JOTW Chinese Kasumi look-alike strand from Catherine Cardellini

Let me just say that this strand exceeded all expectations I had from seeing Catherine's pictures. The pictures just don't capture the light output it produces. I feel like there are projectors uplighting my face when I wear this strand. Not a bad effect at any age .

Specs - baroque shaped 13 - 16mm pearls. 17 3/4" but fits close because of larger pearls. The surfaces have lots of texture and I find myself touching the strand quite a bit while wearing. It's very meditative.

It's been very gray and dreary around here so the light hasn't been great for pictures. There are so many colors in each pearls and that just doesn't come thru the pictures that well. I find that turning over a few pearls changes the look of the strand at least to me. Maybe no one else can see it but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this is my precious one

Congratulations on your new pearls, they look beautiful on you! I have a small trio of Chinese wrinkled pearls and the iridescence is amazing. I can't imagine what a whole strand must be like.

pinkjewel, the strand is 17 3/4 inches. I have it hooked one pearl shorter in the neck shot so that comes out to about 17". CC's knots leave enough space between pearls to use the S-hook to shorten the strand. I find that I really like the S-hook she uses as it's much easier to clasp and unclasp the strand plus it's not as rough on the nails. I wish more vendors offered this option instead of the regular fish hook closure.

thanks baby monster! that is the same length as the ones I've ordered,too. good to know it can be a little shorter,too-if needed. I had hoped they would show up in today's mail, but not yet.(sigh)

And as I'm trying to figure out which strand to wear for holiday pictures - 96" FW rope twisted into a torsade.

Love both pieces.

This is a bit of a noob question but how do you twist a rope in to a torsade? Does it need a clasp to do this or would it work on a continuous rope?

My rope is continuous but you do need a pearl clasp or loop or shortener for a torsade. I usually fold the strand into 4 lengths so that's 24" (96/4) and then twist it until I like how the strands lay. Usually I prefer a tight weave so the length ends up around 20" twisted. You can get the loop at a crafts store or ebay and they do come in different diameter sizes depending on size of your strand. In a pinch, you can use a large safety pin - that's a trick one of the lovely ladies of this pearl forum shared with me. HTH

very late to the party here, but I am so glad I could see the kasumi look a-likes in real life pics. They are so hard to get a feel for in CC's pics. And yours are totally stunning. It still leaves me confused colour wise, I don't know which way to lean, but the glow on them is out of this world.

Great info. I'm looking for one now and it's so hard to narrow them down! They're ALL amazing. Yours is beautiful on you. The colors compliment your skin tone perfectly.

However, I see all of the sudden so many kasumi look-alikes show up as "On Hold" . Somebody has been shopping!
