HELP!!
I think I have chipped my diamond - I’m not sure but on the weekend my friend caught her ring off mine and now there is a dent in one of my prongs and I can see a shiny bit that looks different to the rest of the girdle on my ring. I’m stressing out - I have jewellery insurance for my ring but it’s very sentimental to me

Take it in to a professional and have them check it out. No reason to stress if you have insurance!

Just my 2 cents..its extremely hard to chip a diamond with normal every day wear and tear if that makes you feel better. And remember what youre seeing is probably because of the prong movement. Also-if the diamond was inherited unless you've seen it from it's original purchase state, that chip may have been there already [if in fact that's what it is] and was originally put into the setting that way with the prong covering it. I wouldn't stress about it too much though. Unless its an enhanced diamond subjected to the jewelers torch many times..then it would be more susceptible to cracks.

I agree with the above that it seems unlikely your stone is chipped but it's easy to get it checked out and this would be a covered loss under nearly every policy. Equally important, the prong may be damaged and the stone now insecure. Go see a pro. Inspections are usually free or inexpensive and they can do it while you wait.

It could be a natural that was under a prong but you didn’t know it. It happened to me. I took it to an appraiser who told me what it was. I stressed about it for two months. Bring it to an experienced appraiser. I’m not sure all jewelers would know what it is. Bring your GIA or whatever report you have with the plot.
