Chipped my sapphire:( Who could possibly repolish it?

Hello all! I chipped the girdle area of my new sapphire (less than one month old). I am mad at myself and should have been more conscientious. Luckily, the chip is very small. I have thought about it, and for a mind clean reason I can't just let it go. I realized I would actually rather repolish it to get the chip out, lose some wt/size, reset it in a safer setting, and then never wear it again but just stare at it and admire it, lol. I know this sounds a bit off, and, yes, I am a little neurotic:/ Thank you for any and all suggestions, they're much appreciated! (I am sorry if this should have been posted elsewhere.)

Jerry Newman
Dan Stair
Not sure who else does fixer uppers.

I echo Jerry Newman for a recut/polish............ I can SO identify with wanting to make the gem 'whole' again. In some ways these gems are a part of us where we escape when we look at them! Good luck!

Oh no! I’m sorry that happened. Another vote for Jerry Newman. I once dropped two Tsavorite garnets on a tile floor and he was a miracle worker and a very kind person to work with as well.

I'm so sorry! Hopefully the people that PSers recommend are up to the job.

Not sure if Yoram (Gemconcepts) does sapphire?

Thank you all for the suggestions and the validation, definitely made my day better after discovering I did in fact chip it. It's a terrible feeling! I'll reach out to these guys after the holiday. Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Good luck, I hope you can get it sorted! :))

@OoohShiny may not realize that Yoram Finkelstein of GemConcepts is in Israel. He's a superb diamond cutter, but even if Yoram were interested in taking on the relatively minor task of "refreshing" your sapphire at a price you'd be willing to pay, getting the stone to-from Israel would involve more money and angst than using either Jerry Newman or Dan Stair here in the States -- whom we know are quite experienced with colored gems (where there can be different considerations in play than with diamonds). So if I were you, I wouldn't bother contacting Yoram. Enjoy the last day of the holiday weekend! :wavey:

I do ;) but I know that he also likes a good gemstone! :))

It is fair comment on shipping costs, though - they can often remove an option from the table!

Ah, I didn't think that Yoram cut/re-cut the colored gems in the jewelry pieces as I thought I was seeing facet abrasion on some of those stones & some fairly wonky, colored gems that are not without their own charm to my eye, but didn't appear to have been cut/re-cut by Yoram. When he's cut the diamonds, seemed like those are always preceded by GemConcepts in the description, e.g.,

Whereas the colored gems aren't described as GemConcepts stones, but as "genuine vintage/old cut," sometimes with the additional info that the stones are from the earlier 20th century or from the family's collection.

But my thinking the colored gems hadn't been cut or "touched up" by Yoram might be mistaken -- wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong about something. ;-)
