Woman stabbed after saying no to proposal
Victim played dead as attacker stabbed her multiple times
By Simon Read - STAFF WRITER

A Concord woman is in stable condition after a man stabbed her multiple times after she turned down his marriage proposal.

The attack occurred early Sunday morning after the two attended a party Saturday night in Walnut Creek, officials said.

``We''re investigating this as an attempted murder,'''' said Jimmy Lee, spokesman for the Contra Costa County Sheriff''s Department. After the party, the 21-year-old victim and the unnamed suspect drove to the 4200 block of Camino Diablo Road in Byron, Lee said.

``It''s an isolated area,'''' he said. ``It''s surrounded by a dirt road and there''s a sewage plant. Both the victim and suspect got out of the car. He proposed, and she said no.''''

Angered by the rejection, the man slashed the woman''s throat, Lee said. The woman fell to the ground and played dead as her attacker stabbed her numerous times.

``He pushed her into some sort of canal or drainage ditch,'''' Lee said. ``He fled the scene, and she was able to crawl out and walk to a nearby house.'''' The home''s occupants notified authorities, Lee said, prompting the arrival of sheriff''s investigators, paramedics and a medical helicopter. The woman was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where she is listed in stable condition, officials said.

``She is expected to survive,'''' Lee said. ``Obviously, we are talking to her and trying to develop suspect information.''''

Lee said the victim and her attacker were neighbors, though neither one knew each other that well. It''s unclear why the two drove to Byron following the party.

Wow, that story gave me goosebumps. I hope she makes a full recovery and the a-hole does a lot of time in the clink. A big "Booo" to the crazies in this world.

No wonder she said ''no'' to him. She must have realised what a psycho he was.

FREAK!!!! Surely she had some sort of warning as to his mental state since she said no. Good thing she''s not one of those women that think ''he''ll change''. She''s lucky to get out now.

The really weird thing was I watched the video about this on CNN.com last night and they said that the woman didn't even have a relationship with him! They weren't even dating! They also mentioned that he may have psychotic problems or something.

I kind of wondered if that might have been the case. Why else would this happen? Normal men don''t take rejections THAT badly...I do recall reading a story on here about a ring that was left on a car in a parking lot with a note attached that said the "leaver''s" proposal had been rejected and he''d rather someone else have it instead of him having to deal with it again. Heck of a lot better than stabbing the rejector, of course. Obviously there are serious mental problems involved, but I still hope he gets locked up forever and ever. No amount of prescription drugs and therapy are going to stave off the urge to kill someone when you don''t get your way, IMO.

What a horrible story! I really hope the poor girl makes a full recovery, and that the madman gets locked up.

Okay ... clearly I hope the gal heals quickly and that the psycho gets locked up for good ... but c''mon .. didn''t anyone else wonder IF HE BOUGHT A RING??? And, if so, WHAT DID IT LOOK LIKE???

This may be the least appropriate time to say it EVER ... but I''m gonna need some hand shots.

I don't think there was a ring. I believe they mentioned something about him being a possible illegal immigrant from Mexico or something too.

Golly gee, makes ya wonder why the woman said no in the first place.

Am I the only one who thinks choosing to propose on an isolated dirt road next to the sewage plant is reason enough to say no??

But yeah, so glad she made it out okay...they better lock him uuuuup.

I''m not sure what the real truth is in that part. The video on CNN said that he actually proposed the day before and told her to give him an answer the next day. So the next day he asked for her answer and she said no and he went nuts.

Not only is this totally freaky, but Walnut Creek is a nice neighborhood, my sis and her family live in the neighboring town, I've spent lots of time in WC can't even imagine something like this happening there I thought I was imagining things as I read this!!!

Although, I have heard ever since BART (bay area rapid transit) was brought in there has been gang activity. Now I completely understand why the town where my sis and her family live petitioned against having BART run through their area. Still though this is really a shock!

The thing that's weird though is why would she leave the party with him and put herself at risk, hell if they weren't even dating there had to be some other warning signs?! I mean if it were me I would have stayed at the party where LOTS of people were. If he had proposed the previous day and they WEREN'T dating that's a pretty good sign there's something off.
