Why is it when you are actively looking for something that you thought were plentiful and affordable in the past, suddenly you can't seem to find anything and whatever's out there seems more expensive than they ought to be? I need a 7mm round or cushion chrysoberyl or yellow tourmaline with nice chartreuse or canary color and decent cutting and suddenly I can't find any. Do you ever feel like this?

@Cockatiel Are you looking for a loose stone? Any preference between tourmaline or chrysoberyl? The latter would be more hard wearing. =)2

Yeah a loose stone, not concerned about durability as it will be part of a pendant. I just need something with a strong yellow or greenish yellow color.

Sod's law indeed!

Jeff Davies usually has some Chrysoberyl with green tone listed in his eBay (and Etsy) shop, and I had been watching them. However, they appeared to be sold, nevermind.

I would suggest reaching out to him to see if he has any suitable roughs in his inventory to cut one for you.

DK :))

Thanks! He indeed has some stones in the bright yellow color family I noticed when I was browsing his Etsy yesterday but they're a little more than I want to spend for a pendant part. I'm putting together a pendant to ummm rescue some random stones I am stuck with. I'm being cheap! I am thinking $200 or less max $300.

I am certain he had one listed for 345 USD in the past in his eBay shop, with an option to make an offer. I was very tempted to put in an offer for 280 USD to see if he would accept, as I had done this more than once in the past with his "Make Offer" listings and he accepted my offers.

Good luck with finding a suitable stone for your project.

Good luck, I don't think you'll be able to find either chrysoberyl or yellow tourmaline as a 7mm round for that budget, but you never know.

I've seen a lot of 6mm chrysoberyl rounds, but for some reason the larger chrysoberyls I've seen have been ovals or cushions and not rounds.

Have you thought of heliodore? Can be a strong yellow color and costs less than either chrysoberyl or a yellow tourmaline (which is rarer than other colors of tourmaline).

Here's an example round I found. A 9mm round for $250.

I haven’t purchase from him, but his stones look nice.
Or

I have a golden beryl and a yellow zoisite from Jeff White and canary tourmalines from @Desertrose so you might want to check with them. I'm not sure if they'll be within your budget though.

This has just been posted on one of JD's FB pages:

I would go with chrysoberyl if you can. It’s extremely durable and incredibly beautiful and brilliant with an amazing luster when well cut. I would look for neon hlighter yellow Tanzanian material. It can be brownish or urine yellow in some cases.

Probably too big (10mm) and a bit too expensive (500), plus a potentially bad inclusion, but may as well share it
