Hi All,
I have just purchased an engagment ring (yesterday in fact) and have decided to insure the ring through Chubb. I, as expected seem to be having a little difficulty locating an agent willing to give me a policy just for the ring, and especially since it is under $15k. This was not unexpected, but I still had to try.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with an agent in NJ that could perhaps help me out.

Thanks in Advance

Hi Troutster,

I'm sure someone will chime in here with their experience but I would also get in touch with or PM 'baltneu', as he frequents this forum, lives in NJ and recently had his fiancee's ring insured (I believe through Chubb, though I can't recall at the moment). I think he will be able to offer you some good advice. He is also a financial planner.

Hope this helps. Good luck & please keep us posted.

I know how you feel it is a pain tring to get it insurance half the people i called never called me back either. I live in NJ and just insured my ring yeatrday through chubb for $10,000. Here is the number to the chubb agent that helped me

Tom - 1 973 783-6600
It is 1.85 per $100.

Also if you go to the chubb website it will give you a list of agents near you. Congradulations!

Hi Troutster
Linda (one of my most favorite people) asked me to chime in on this one. If you do a search there are quite a few posts to see.

Anyway, most people who try to get Chubb have to work hard at it because of different responses from agents, some say they can do it, some say they cannot. So if you want Chubb, you have to keep calling.

Let me say there is no right answer here, it is up to you! Chubb is a "cash" payout policy meaning that they cut you a check, and you do what you want with the check. If you want to buy another ring, that is your decision, or you can take the money and go to Tahiti (take me with you).

The other policies like State Farm are "replacement" policies, which means they will go out and replace with "like kind and quality", etc and all that good stuff. The big objection people have with this policy is that they are at the mercy of the insurance co. I decided to do the following: I insured with SF, I saved the money over Chubb, but I worked very hard with the agent and underwriter of the co, to list on the "Declaration" page as much detail about the stone, not just its size, color and clarity. I had listed it was AGS000, H & A, etc. So if you go this route, then I recommend as much detail in the Declaration page as possible. The premium with Chubb will be higher than other co's, you should know that, some people have no problem with that. Remember at the outset, I said there was no right answer, or am I telling you what to do, but to examine all the options and make the decision that works for you.

One other comment: As I have read other posts on this matter, I have not come across an unsatisfied person who put in a claim and recieved something they could not accept.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for popping in here. It's always great to hear from you!

Was that price ($1.85 per $100) per month or year?

VH, it seems to me that from the ones that I have talked to, that's per year. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. My quote was $148 per year from Plib. That was on $5800. Call me math-challenged, but I don't know how to figure what that works out to per hundred.

Just an update:

Thanks nicstn! I called Tom, afte trying several other agents. Tom was a great help and got me the policy no problem! If you are in NJ and need the Cubb E-Ring Policy, give Tom a call.

I told him about Pricescope when he was asking how I heard of him. Feel free to tell him Scott referred him too from Pricescope.
