Cleaning "hard to reach" areas in diamond rings- found a good tool!

My engagement ring has areas which are impossible to reach with a conventional brush (even a tiny baby tooth brush), and I found that using an artist''s FILBERT brush reaches all areas to gently remove oil and build-up that soaking alone won''t budge. This is a very delicate spotting brush, and the bristles are fine Taklon, which are soft yet will hold up to light pressure. The brush I used for my ring is from Loew-Cornell, the gauge is 10/0 and it''s a 7500 Filbert. It''ll cost you about 3 bucks at your local artist supply store. I clean my ring with either a mixture of Mr. Clean and water or dishsoap and water.

I am a huge fan of these little bristle brushes that are at the drugstore in packs of 2 or 3 that are used for some sort of strange toothbrushing contraption, like maybe the first generation of the Braun motorized brush or something. They are super small with tiny white bristles on a metal stick (almost like a bottle brush but 1/100 of the size). I can get inbetween the prongs and clean the pavilion and each minute little stone in my ring. I also soak it once a week in Windex overnight and then scrub it the next day--but it gets a cleaning every morning with the little brush and Windex anyway.

Mara and PuddyKat, that's a really good idea! We have one of those in the bathroom (along with everything else invented since Edison) and I'll give it a try. Attached is a ring that is just like my own, except I have a matching wedding band soldered to it (I know, I'm hearing readers go eeeek!). My center stone is a Crisscut and the side stones are Radiants. Sorry that the picture is so dark; my digital camera is on loan, forcing me to use the vendor's picture.

The way the diamonds are set, regular brushes don't work very well, so creativity is necessary!

Puddy...I think that I have just the refills...I didn't want the big tool thing, I just hold the brush in my hand and scrub in and out and it actually works quite well because the brushes are tiny so my fingers can get close to the ring etc. Works very well!!!
