In the annals of FI's being wedding-clueless, I thought T'Guy's guestbook choice came tops. My FI decided to try to compete today, and though he didn't quite make it, I was pretty impressed with the effort.

How long have we been planning this wedding now? 7 months? And how long to go? About 8 weeks? So at this point you would think that the major elements would be pinned down. We're sitting in the living room and he's saying "I'm really getting excited about WP1! At so and so's wedding, people danced till 5 in the morning."

So, I say "Dancing?"

FI: "Yes! Of course!"

Indy: "Where will people be dancing, honey?"

FI: "I don't know."

Indy: "Are we going to be clearing out a room of furniture? Is that it?"

FI: "Uh."

Indy: "Because you said you wanted a dinner at my mom's house, right?"

FI: "Yeah"

Indy: "And there's no dance floor in my mother's house, right? And what about the music?"

FI: "We could get a DJ!"

Indy: "And where would we find a DJ at this point? For a Saturday night? And how is it that you didn't mention that you wanted dancing for SEVEN MONTHS!!!"

There is no way I can dance in that dress, or those shoes. No mention of dancing at WP1 was made until now, but FI was apparently silently expecting it all along. OK, well, he can try to arrange it then. I'm sure my mom will be thrilled.

LMAO. 7 months. *shakes head8

Yeah, gotta love ''em. Mine ruined all thoughts I had of affordable music about a month ago when he mentioned the DJ thing. But then, he''s been through this a few times with me, so he''s learned to pay attention. Doesn''t mean I don''t expect him to compete, but I think T-guys got this thing sewn up.

I actually feel kinda bad for him. Mind you it was HIM who wanted to do the whole formal dinner thing. HE chose the format. But now he seems so disappointed. I just don''t know how we can pull it off in 8 weeks. Not to mention the conniptions my mom will have when I suggest we clear out one of the rooms to make a dance floor. There will be dancing at WP2, it''s just that his friends are mostly coming to WP1.

BOYYYYYS! Can''t plan a wedding WITH them. Can''t plan a wedding without them.

Well, I''d ask mom about clearing the room, certainly. But finding a DJ? How are you with an Ipod?

I was just about to mention an Ipod, too! And also, I don''t know what the weather will be like or if your mom''s house has any outdoor space, but maybe you could do dancing on a porch or in the yard or something? No idea whether this is even an option...just suggesting

Yes, it would be hard for anyone to top T''guy''s funeral home guest book!

But the assumption about Dancing 8 weeks out comes pretty darn close!

That is pretty good competition to TGuy''s Vistor''s book alright. Poor guy... but it''s pretty funny. I think our men expect us to read their minds and make their visions come to life without have to say a word or lift a finger. We love them anyway, don''t we?

That''s what I was thinkin''! Just set up a playlist in advance and you should be good to go (and probably have better songs than what a DJ might choose

Hey Gwendolyn, as a former club-er and sometime DJ myself I''m reeeeeeally fussy about dance music. I would rather cancel the wedding than hire a DJ who plays "songs". No offence to anyone! Just that it''s an area where I''m very fussy, just as someone who was a chef or a serious foodie would be extra fussy about the food.

So, we would need to hire a "real" DJ - an artist who makes music out of other music - if you see what I mean.

I like the iPod idea in a pinch. And outside just might work. My mom has acres of gardens, with some flat areas. Although in formal gowns... the mud... it''s a bit of a wet time of year. Maybe people could change? But really, that sounds kind of complicated.

Well, I''ll talk to my mom today. Only about 15 people would be dancing, so maybe we could just push a few things over.

Oh lord Gypsy thanks for posting that link. That thread still kills me!

Oh. Oh, my god. I''m going to show this thread to my bf, since this is exactly the kind of thing he''d do. But yikes!

Can you think of the dancing as an after party? That would make the changing seem less weird.
