Colored stone advice for ring mod

I just purchased this ring guard. It has to go to my jeweler for any necessary repairs and a small resizing. Of course, with ring guards, they were meant to have a ring inserted in the middle, but since I have a wonderful jeweler I would like to discuss with him a colored stone being set in the open space. He'll give me the stone specifications and I'll end up sourcing it myself....hopefully with your help. Preliminarily, my questions are: what stone and what shape? I am thinking a east/west setting but don't know if an oval or marquis would look better. As for the stone, I love the look of a rhodolite garnet and I think one would be pretty as a permanent setting in this guard but I am open to any and all suggestions. Pricescope is the best "go to" place for advice and answers!IMG_5080 (1).jpgIMG_5081 (1).jpg

Love your idea about a rhodolite garnet. Can your jeweler do a mock CAD with EW oval and marquise? Or, can you try a loose stone on in store to help you make the decision? A possible suggestion, a round colored stone with diamond sides to mimic a navette ring (but this may be too complicated).

@kgizo Yes, yes and yes to all. (He's quite talented for our little rural corner of the world though he probably wonders what I'm up to (this time) whenever I walk in the door.) His wife works with him and she has a lot of great ideas also. I will ask about the round stone with side stones and see what he has to say but I think it is doable and a great idea and would really simplify things. I'm glad you mentioned it because I am not at all against a round colored stone and the diamond side accents would close up the "gap".....and you are the very reason I put the question out there! Thank you!!

I like your idea!

I think it will all have to do with the LxW ratio and individual outline shape of the oval vs marquise in which will look like it fits/goes better. Vs a blanket answer of one shape over another.

round with additional diamonds filling in the navette space is interesting too!

Thank you! I bought the ring at a local pawn shop and will take it in to be sure there are no loose or wonky stones but I do love the finger coverage and the diamonds really sparkle even though it needs a good cleaning. Then he can evaluate it and let me know what he believes will work best. It is marked "14KP" which also helped me decide to go ahead a buy it.
