What makes a colored stone ring look most ering-y? Sidestones, pave, halo, solitaire? I know we have talked about what would make a diamond look LESS ering-y, how about the other way around? I am thinking of going this route, and would love to hear what you guys think. I want it to clearly be my ering, not just a colored stone RH/fashion type ring.

Personally, I think side stones make it look more eringy but a halo would work as well. I think sapphires, rubies or emeralds with trap/bullet/baguette sides look most eringy in an old school way. Really a timeless look.

Honestly I think a colored stone ering is either a solitaire or has smaller sidestones. When I see a colored stone in a halo I think "Right hand ring". I don''t know why...I plan on having a plain ol'' solitaire.

I agree...I''d do a three stone if using a colored gemstone. That looks most like an e-ring. I love a diamond with side sapphires or a larger center sapphire with diamond sides!

Personally, I think size is very important - if you go too big it can start to look more cocktail ring. I think something about 1.5ct max is about right.

The setting needs to suited to the stone. Some stones need to have a few diamonds to add some sparkle - others are great as stand alone - MZ''s spess for example needs no extra adornment.

Tapered baguette sidestones add a very classic e-ring look.

Really - just go for the stone and design that makes your heart sing - don''t worry about what anyone else may or may not think!

I will also have a colored stone as an e-ring and I second the emotion on folks who have said solitaire or three stone seems like the way to go. My perfect setting will have some pave, but not a halo (though when I was thinking we might go a diamond, I was totally pro-halo).

And alas, I will be breaking the 1.5 carat size threshold. But I''m ok with that.

i think its individual taste. i''m not much into halo''s as to me they look like cocktail rings. however, i know people think the same thing about my 8.18 spess e-ring. as noted above [thank you!] it needed no adornment and in fact i think diamonds would have definitely given it the cocktail ring look. its all individual taste, though. get what makes YOU happy.

would you limit yourself size wise with a diamond? my spess is about the same as a 4 -5 carat diamond.... a 1.5 carat color stone is going to be a lot smaller than a 1.5 diamond.

congratulations on making the color e-ring decision! personally, i have not once regretted going with color.

Mine will probably be around 1.5-2.5 carat and will be fantastic. Heh.

I am a fan of step traps and baguettes, and bullets. I also like solitaires....and split shanks. LOL good thing I have another couple of months to decide

I love the idea of a Leon solitaire, yum!!

Obviously I'm biased now and think it's a great idea! I also agree to not get into the super huge range or else you risk the cocktail ring look, but I think that doesn't have to be below 1.5 for sure (a great example is MZ's Spess...gorgeous!). If you want to go big, make sure you don't get a halo. IMO big+halo= cocktail ring. But if you get a big three stone or solitaire, I think it looks great. Halos make me think of cocktail rings in general, so I'd avoid that if possible.

I think a beautiful gemstone solitare that really sparkles can stand on it''s own two feet w/o any adornment, and would make a nice engagement ring.

Both Sarah Ferguson and Diana had ruby''s or sapphires with halos. I guess if I had any pre-concieved notion of what would make a colored stone ring look like an e-ring, that would be it.

In fact, I didn''t even originally think I would go with a sapphire. When I tried it on, I just knew..

What ever you choose, the colored stone e-ring is a wonderful, unique idea.
