So I'm mainly putting feelers out - I have decided I definitely want to set my mrb in a different setting but I still want to keep my 3 stone setting and put a colored stone in. I know many of you have collections of cs that you haven't set, and if you are looking to part with one that might fit this setting I would be interested. It seems I would need to stick with round, but I have contacted the vendor who will do my setting and asked if a square shape like asscher would fit or not because if it could I would love that shape!!!

One of the reasons I want to reset is because this setting was really meant for a max 1ct diamond and mine is bigger at 6.8 mm and 1.16 ct so I think the center looks disproportionate the the .15 sides. I think I would need a gem in the 6-6.5mm range.

As for type of gem I am flexible in thinking a blue red or even green color. I am thinking of a sapphire (Montana sapphires look so pretty!) or a red spinel rubelite or anything looking ruby red bc I probably couldn't afford a decent ruby. For green would love to have tsavorite or emerald but I think that might be on the higher end as well.

I'm attaching pics of my current setting. I have several LT listings up if you want to contact me from there - here is one: https://loupetroop.com/listings/bands/14k-yellow-gold-thick-band-over-7-grams-sz-6-6-dot-5

or you can just reply to this thread.

Let me check and get back to you, as I have a few Garnets that I am definitely not going to set, if that sounds like a plan for you.

DK :))

Would the mounting actually fit a 6-6.5mm stone? I think it might leave too large of a gap between the center and the sides, and the prongs may look too pinched because they'd have to clamp them inward to accommodate a smaller stone. Also, I'd avoid native cuts due to pavilion bulge. That setting isn't as generous in the undercarriage area compared to an open basket.

The stone that’s in there now is 6.8 mm so I would hope that a 6.5 at least would work. I have been doing some searching and thinking it is best to keep a round brilliant cut with perhaps a sapphire to up the chances of it fitting. I had to look up native cut as I did not know what that meant. Thank you!

I have mint garnets for sale that are 6mm (one might be 6.1 and the other 5.9, but both close to 6mm). But not sure if they would be too small for your ring.

If I went the green route I would want a deeper color but thank you :) I love your blue nails in that picture btw!

I would probably stay within 6.5-6.7mm, but look for precision cut so there's no pavilion bulge to get in the way. They have been a huge pain in my *ss and I wish I knew that early on in my gem buying days. I have tons of mountings and gems that don't fit!

Oh my goodness! What do you do with all those spare mountings? I think I have found some thing that will work. fingers crossed.

Absolutely nothing! There are 20+ mountings sitting in a tray and I occasionally use them to photograph loose stones. That's it.

Holy moly!!! You should try to sell some haha. Maybe one of your mountings would be a perfect fit for another PSers stone!

That is beautiful; I am waiting for another stone in the mail that I selected.

Thank you! I've had it for years and haven't set it, so I decided to list it. Please share pics once you have your new stone set! I love 3 stone rings. =)2

Do you happen to know the depth? I got my stone in and I'm not sure it's going to fit, so am revisiting this.

I measured just under 5mm in depth with my manual calipers.

Ok it’s too deep but thank you! Best wishes on selling!

I got this Kenyan sapphire from Dan. It’s a pretty color just thinking it may be too small. The one @Xiriah is selling is dynamite but a full mm deeper than my diamond. David K said with the lattice design etc it can’t be too deep.

Would it fit if it was set a bit lower? It's a really pretty color!

Now that I see the medium lovely blue of Xiriah's though I think I might be on the hunt. I realize that I may be in too much of a hurry - the main thing was to reset the diamond and my efforts have been on that so I was just in a hurry to find a stone that would work; but in thinking it over I should take my time because I still love my original setting. I just thought once I send it to DK to unmount the stone it would be easier to send it with a new gem to mount rather than get it back empty, find something, yada yada yada but it may be best to go that route to find something I really like.

Omg are you me?? That's exactly how I'm feeling about that ruby rn. Like, it's nice. I could probably make it work. But wait. What's the hurry??
