I am just starting to look at gowns and there are a few I like, none in a color I want. I have never wanted a white or off white wedding gown and the color would look really bad on me. I am looking for a green or blue green color. It could be bright emerald or pale pastels. The dress could be a mix of the traditionally white and a green. I don''t just mean a sash or colored laces in a corset though, I really want there to be a fair amount of color, atleast as much as there is of white. I want a fairly traditional dress otherwise, but have had very little luck. Are there designers that I should look at? Websites I should go to? Anything else I should consider?
Thank you for any and all help.

I am not positive that they will have the exact color you want since I haven''t looked in a long time, but Maggie Sottero gowns definitely come in some beautiful non-white colors. I wore Maggie Sottero but mine was just plain ole white!

I suppose you could always ask about making something in your desired color.

On sites like brides.com and/or theknot.com, look for bridesmaid's dresses instead of bridal gowns.

ETa: Jim Hjelm's Occasions collection has some bridal-y dresses in colors.

Do you like taffeta? Forever Yours bridal gowns in taffeta come in 16 different colors, including light blue and sage.

ETA: It also looks like this gown (Watters 9032B) from Watters is available in both light and dark greens/blues. Maybe a call to Watters or one if it's retailers could tell you if any of their other gowns do. They also have a lot of BM dresses that could pass for wedding dresses.

HTH!

Hi bih,

David''s Bridal carries colored dresses...when I was there the other day they had "Princess" looking gowns in light blue, pink and lavender...hope that helps!

I find most bridesmaid dresses aren''t formal enough. We are getting married on the front steps of an old mansion and I really need something that has a slightly wider skirt and more decoration then bride''s maid dresses. I tried looking online, but "green wedding gown" comes up with ecofriendly weddings and gowns made from hemp satin!

I noticed when looking at the BIW list, you''re getting married in 2 weeks. Just curious: did your date change, or is this something you''re needing in two weeks?

Yes, because we were in Ireland for a few months after we got engaged there was no way we could plan the wedding in that amount of time so we moved it set 21 of next year. I thought I had it changed on the list but I will write and have that done. Thanks for letting me know.

Oh, okay. I was about to say...you wouldn't be able to find much in 2 weeks!

This Maggie Sottero is available in a color called 'Blue Haze' (very pale ice blue):

Another light blue dress from Sophia Tolli:

One in bolder blue from Mori Lee:

I would keep an eye on the more upscale department store websites. Sometimes you can find the most beautiful evening gowns in really beautiful colors. Take a look at Nordstrom, Saks, Bloomingdales, Neimans, Bergdorf ... This time of year might be hard to find the colors you are looking for, but when they start previewing spring collections, you just might find what you are looking for (I''d also scout the reports coming out of Fashion Week that is happening right now ... it''s all the stuff for spring.)

Hi brazen-

It''s been a while, but if I remember correctly, did you post a photo of style your were going for? A very Celtic style gown? My apologies if it wasn''t you, but I did love it. You may want to look into having your gown made. I certainly didn''t want a white/off white gown- I was sure I wanted a light shade of purple. I didn''t have a dressmaker''s dummy so I couldn''t do it myself. Do a citysearch for dressmakers, get a list of maybe ten or so to start and then talk to them about what you want and if they can do it to your specifications so you have precisely what you want.

There is nothing like having THE PERFECT dress on such an important day.

I'm having a coloured wedding gown too. Probably a soft green with ivory and gold.

However, I couldn't find anything I liked on-line that wasn't custom.

I loved Chantal Mallet's designs - sadly out of my price range.

My venue is huge and 11th century so I need a dress that will suit the surroundings - I'm going for a tudor/medieval style: 'Shakespeare in Love' kind of dresses.

I must have looked at about everything available online in the UK and the US and most of them were either too gothic or too paeganty as well as being made of really horrible, cheap looking fabrics.

I was lucky to find the wonderful Mary Morris who specialises in couture dresses and historic corsetry. I rang her up and she'd moved out of London and said she wasn't doing dresses anymore. She then asked me what I had in mind - and then said she is so excited by my ideas that she will make it! It will cost around $2k, but in London you can't get anything from Pronovias, Maggie Sottero etc for much under $4-8k so I'm super happy.

Good luck with your search!

bih...I don''t know if you''ve looked on ebay, but here is a seller that has a variety of gowns that might fit with what you''re looking for: colored gowns...click on her ebay store to see more variety. Don''t know if they''re too "ball gownish" or not enough! Hope that helps!
