Have fallen far enough down the rabbit hole to be across the desired numbers to look for on cut and the images to request, but not far enough to have any confidence reading those images.

Was sent the below by the jeweller as an 'ASEF image' (perhaps a typo...) on a HCA 1.8 round diamond (excellent within FIC range) with stats that otherwise seem pretty reasonable.

Very grateful for any thoughts, especially as to any red/orange flags revealed.

These are hearts & arrows images, not an Ideal-Scope/ASET image. Can you request an ASET or Ideal-Scope image?

As @Kim N mentioned it is not an idealscope image and it is computer generated.
However you can still do some assessment.

There is no wonky pavilion.
There is no detrimental light leakage.
There is some noticeable girdle treatment.

You mentioned it is a FIC with HCA 1.8, which mean a shallow pavilion and steep crown.

I would say 90-92 out of 100, based what is presented here.

Many thanks all for these helpful comments, the guidance is much appreciated (and with no disrespect to the other posters I am particularly stoked to hear from Garry) - this all tends to suggest there's no reason from the data available not to buy it (other than chasing something in the statistically top 1-2%, of course).

Now, I'm told the supplier can't/won't supply an IdealScope or ASET image. One can read a lot about the dangers of ever 'buying blind' without at least one of these, but they seem quite difficult to get a hold of. Any views on whether that is a bit overcooked?

I get that there are some excellent online-only vendors who can always supply these, but there is a quite a bit of value (for me at least) in the combination of being able to choose the ring in-person (which I have) and then source from the diamond from their online stock.

No clue about the diamond size or price so no way to determine value. I would have never really appreciated super ideals until I saw them. I would ask this though - would this jeweler take this diamond back in trade if you or she ever wanted an upgrade? Would he require you to spend double your initial money to do so? Most people don’t start out thinking about that but it happens more often than you think. Just some food for thought when deciding on which vendor to work with when purchasing.

His refusal to provide images makes me think he doesn’t know about them or value what those images can show. I dealt with many diamond dealers through the years before landing with Whiteflash. Looking back, I realized their reluctance to provide images meant that a) they didn’t have the ability to provide them and b) cut quality was not at the top of their game. I wish I had known about all of this many years before but once learned, never forgotten. Just some food for thought as you move forward - things I wish I had known many trades prior!

Thanks MissGotRocks.
Yes, I am getting a bit frustrated with being told anything that is triple excellent will look great. I mean, it will, and before I read more that might have been enough, but...

Yes, I understand your frustration. Not all triple excellent diamonds look great - unfortunately. I couldn’t begin to tell you all the lines I have heard through the years only to find out that most weren’t true. I was diamond buying long before the internet and all of the valuable information that can be had there. Lots of angst on my part but it was what it was - another space in time.
There are some fine looking diamonds to be had but the mind clean part of me wanted images and explanations about what I was seeing and, more importantly, what I was buying. I would choose smaller but premium cut any day of the week now. I do understand your points of view and in the end, it is your choice. I wish you all the best and hope it all turns out beautifully for you!

You could share the gia or other cert and get more confidence.
You can blot out the report number
