Hey girls!

I have attached a picture of my dress. Im wearing it with the spaghetti straps. This is a dumb question, but do I need to go try on veils? I didnt try any on when I was at the bridal salon, but I have been looking at some online.

I am thinking of an elbow length one, with maybe a simple satin cording on the end. My friend had the extra fullness type, but I was wondering if anybody has tried on a standard versus extra fullness veil, and how did they compare?

My last question is: I am planning to wear it higher on my head instead of in the back of my head. Would you still wear a headband/tiara with the veil worn like that or do you just kind of wear the veil and let it be?

i am clueless

my best advice to you is to go back to the salon and have your dress on and try the veils. I think it''s best that way, because then you see how they go together, which is super important, IMO.

A lot of the preference is just personal taste though, like poofy vs not so poofy, etc.. I think a pretty satin edge would match your gown nicely!

About the tiara, IMO, if you want one, wear it! You can still make it work if the veil is up higher, I don''t think that would be a problem.

Good luck!

You should definitely go try on different veils with your dress. see what style you like and then maybe order one online. Its really hard to picture what the different lengths, tiers, fabrics look like with out seeing them on you and with the dress. Also there are all different edgings and embellishments.. ANd try on all sorts of styles because you might be suprised.. The ladies at the bridal shop kept giving me the same veil that they seeemed to think went best with my dress.. but I just didn''t like it.. So I tried on different ones.. and I think my veil is just *PERFECT* even though I had to beg them to give me a cathedral length veil with my sheath gown!

As for a tiara.. You can definitely still wear one even if you wear the veil up on your head. It would just be right in front of the veil.. or you could wear the tiara more toward the front of your head.

I LOVE your gown! And yes, you should definitely try on veils with your gown. Then you''ll know exactly what to order if you get one online. (My experience was that what I thought looked nice on the rack actually didn''t quite work the best when I put it on with the dress.)

Have you found a good website source for veils? If so, please share--thanks!!

I haven''t ordered from them personally, but it seems some knot girls have ordered from veilshop.com and been satisfied. In any case, the site has all kinds of pictures of different styles and info about edging so it''s a good site to check out.

Prices are reasonable, definitely cheaper than in the bridal salons, which I think are a total rip off... I plan to make my own veil for MUCH cheaper. (As in, probably $20-30 total for a single tier elbow length with satin edging cheap... to give you an idea of the markup!!)

Really?!! That''s awesome you''re making your own veil--I want to do the same thing. My friend did her own a few years ago. Do you have any tips? The bridal salon told me to use silk netting (I thought they were made of tulle). I haven''t started it yet since our date is 11 months away. Any resources you can offer would be GREAT!

i agree with the other gals that you should go to the store, put your dress on and try different veil styles. be open to different kinds (single vs double tier, pouffy vs non-pouffy, embellishments, trim, etc.) and just have fun with it.

i ordered my veil online as well because the ones in the shop were waaaaaay overpriced. i live in vancouver, bc canada and i ordered from www.adorableanna.com. she was great to work with (lives in ottawa, canada). i was originally just gonna get a cathedral length veil ($150 in the store) but when i saw anna''s prices i ended up getting a cathedral length and a waist length to change into for the reception. (i think the cathedral was $55 and the waist was $22). i''m a 2 veil bride!!

Hi girls!

Man I wish I would have tried them on when I had the dress there. I brought it home the other day. My friend suggested ordering a few from veilshop.com, you can order up to 4 at a time and get a full refund if you return it in 7 days. I probably should wait until I have my first fitting, because I cant get into that dress without help, and I dont want to drag it back to the store! lol

Thanks for the compliments about my dress. It only cost $212 after tax! I expected it to be chintzy because it was so inexpensive but its really heavy, has a built in crinoline, and the material is really pretty! Highly recommend the designer Jordan.

You guys are the greatest--I get so many ideas from you! The adorableanna website is definitely bookmarkable.

PunchNPie--you are a bargain-shopping-goddess. Way to go on the dress! You''ll have to post pictures with the veil you finally choose.

I highly recommend making your own veil if you have access to and are somewhat familiar with a sewing machine, don''t want extremely intricate hand done lacework, and are happy doing projects. I made my best friend''s veil for her wedding last year; everything was $50 total (including the pattern, which was $15) and it took about a weekend. I bought a pattern from McCalls (available at any Joanns or fabric store) and followed that, essentially. The fabric is usually tulle (it''s only about $1-2/yard) but some people like to use organza or chiffon. Silk netting would be more expensive, but better quality, of course. Some places also like to sell you ''bridal illusion'', which, IMHO, I think is a crock of s**t bc it''s tulle but marked up. They claim it is ''softer'' than tulle, etc.. which is possible, but heck, it''s a freagin veil you''re gonna wear for a few hours at most... That being said, there is some tulle that is better than others, go with what you feel most comfortable with. The combs you can buy at specialty stores, I''ve seen cheap plastic ones at Michaels but the only place I''ve found the good metal wire ones are at a local place near me, so I''m not sure where you might find that. OTher than that, you buy whatever trimmings you want for the edging, beads, etc.. and just sew/glue them on! Not hard... trust me.
A good website is here If you have questions please feel free to PM me so I don''t take over PnP''s thread!

tachi- I think it''s great you''re a ''two veil'' bride... you hear about so many two dress brides...

Punch - I would just wait until you go in for your first fitting, depending how close that is to your wedding; I don''t think veils take too long to order anyway! And fantastic deal on your dres!!!!!

I got my veil online at eBay for something like $40 and it was awesome. I didn't want one to begin with but my mom insisted, and I did not want to fork over $300 for a veil I didn't even want. Mine was cathedral with a comb etc but I was not into tiaras etc so my stylist just did the 'tuck' into my hair and the veil out out over the top and hid the comb...it worked out fabulous and I got tons of compliments on it. I forget the veil gal on eBay but there are TONS online, so maybe once you know what you want (aka length and style etc), you can check it out and see if you can find a deal!!

I did the veil with tiara look like the gal in the picture. The tiara was right in front of the veil so it looked like one piece. I also had the veil cathedral length for the ceremony and switched to a shorter one for the reception since I wanted to wear a veil all night. I got a lot of compliements on it.

I agree you have to try it on to see how it looks. I couldn''t do that b/c I had my dress custom made. So I just tried on veils one day in my regular clothes. I thought I wanted a veil at the back bottom of my head but the one on top looker nicer, much to my surprise. I''ll have to scan a picture to show how it looked.
