So what to do next? I have no idea.We have a Sony computer not that old.It was getting rather cramped on Drive C while D was practically empty.
That computer comes with Giga Pocket you can watch/record/pause etc TV.
So we had someone try to give us more room on our main drive C.What he did is totally removed the partition so now we have huge drive D only.
In the process of course ( did not think of it before?) we can''t watch TV as giga pocket needs lots of space to record etc.So now it has been corrupted and can''t be even d-loaded from internet?
The computer works ok, but the TV with all the features can not be enjoyed...
How to fix it now? Or is it even possible?

What he did was remove the D partition and expand the C partition.
The software is looking for the d drive to put its files.
You need too go into the software setup and change the location it keeps its files.

Thanks Storm I was hoping you would chip in on this one.He used Norton program to remove the partition.I have access to all my files no problem there. What I can''t access is TV.Sony makes their computer media friendly so one can record tv programs, movies etc and watch them later. From what I understand the partition was to make room to record etc.
They call it Giga Pocket. Now that part won''t work at all. Can''t watch TV any longer.I did watch it on my computer often as I work there. So now he said he can make it work for TV , but I guess I won''t be able to record?
All files and everything else works as it did before only Giga part won''t work..
Thanks Storm if you have any more suggestions?

if the location it keeps the files it records is changed in the program setup everything will work.

there is an update too the software that installing it might fix your issue.
What is the model number of the computer?

Thanks Storm: Its Sony Vaio Model: PCVRS 430G ( Got it in in Jan 2002 )
Thanks as I said he totally removed one hard drive and now I have plenty of space but the division was there so I could watch/record TV movies etc.Everything works fine but Giga Pocket says it got corrupted so no TV.
This computer stuff makes my hair go gray and grayer every day...
Thanks Storm for helping out

eta: I was just thinking here ???? There is Vaio Recovery on this computer.Basically I can set it back to how it was last week or so.I m not sure if this would put back the partition thought? If it did indeed put it back as it was last week then the problem would be solved as far as Giga Pocket goes...I am not sure if it would mess up something else? I did use this Vaio Recovery once before when one of the updates did not work properly and it worked like a charm. In this case however he used Norton program to remove the partition so I am not sure??? Thanks a million..

You''re missing what storm is saying. Before you had drive c and d, with the gigapocket/tv set to record in d. You took out the partition between c and d, so now its one big drive, called drive c. Gigapocket doesn''t know this, all it knows it that it was instructed to record on drive d, which it can''t find. You need to go back in to the gigapocket software and tell it that you now want it to record on drive c.

Thanks Laine for explaining it to me.Yes I m not a computer person that''s for sure ( Sorry Storm I missed your point here)
The Giga Pocket software won''t even open any longer ( says its been corrupted or something like this gives me error number) so I can''t go there????
I am wondering if it would go back as it was if I do Vaio Recovery?

no

Sorry, I can''t really give you any advice on the recovery thing, I don''t know much about it. If it were me, I''d try deleting the gigapocket program and reinstalling it, assuming that you have the cd for it. If you don''t have the software cd, I''d try calling Sony.

Thanks Laine: the computer did not come with cd so I don''t have it.I shall wait to see what Storm has to say? Thanks a lot..

this is really a situation where you need a determined computer geek working on it in person.
Know any high school or college age computer geeks who work cheap?
My area has a ton of them.
Which is why I don't do home user computers.

Thanks Storm I will go to www you suggested and do some reading.
As for the Geek to work on it yes I did ask one of those( and a good one to boot it up) to help me out and now I am asking here to help me fix what he just did...
Funny how it goes sometimes..
Thanks for helping out Storm..

yea that happens....
If I was doing it I would read the error code and figure out what was wrong and fix it but I cant do that on here.

Let me know if the update above works.

Thanks Storm: yes he did try to read up on the error code , tried to go to www of sony and I must say it was not for the lack of trying on his part.Nothing he tried was to avail.
He promised to return and fix it?? Maybe, but I would much prefer to have it as it was and not to put another program so I won''t be able to pause and record any longer.I shall let you know give me few days to read everything and see what to do next..

do not try this yourself...
When your tech comes back..
Have him back up the registry.
create a folder called: C:\Gigapocket\
If he saved D:\Gigapocket\ copy it too that location.
Then go into the registry editor and change every instance of D:\Gigapocket\ too C:\Gigapocket\
If there are any .dll files in the folder when it is copied back they need too be registered in the new location.
That will likely fix the problem if the old folder was saved and there is a chance it will even if it wasn't if the above update is ran.

Thanks Storm: I will point it out to him.No I have no desire to attempt and fix it myself.I will post here after it gets done.??? Hopefully
I asked for this to be fixed just to give me more room on drive C (was almost empty with 5% space left and drive D had like 98% empty space.I was hoping that some of the stuff can be moved or even partition moved.I gave no specific instructions on how to approach it as I had no idea ?I thought it would be easily fixed by an excellent Geek without loosing anything on my computer. He may be able to come up with a solution I am counting on him.I really did not want to loose my TV watching and recording as I do watch TV as I work there..
Lesson learned again: don''t fix it if its not broken...
Thanks Storm...

he did exactly what I would have done when asked too do what you asked.
I would have backed up everything on D, then deleted the partition then expanded the C partition too fill the drive.
And it would have cost you about $150 for me too do it.

Thanks Storm: you are there and I am here
.Geographical disadvantage...Anyways thanks for that.
Perhaps I should have explained a bit more all I said is that I am running out of space and I don''t want to loose anything especially the TV...
We learn as we go..
