My boyfriend and I recently met with a private jeweler and I found the ring that I want, but I still have a few more questions. I want a Emerald Cut Three stone engagement ring with 2 channel set vertical baguette diamond bands one on top and one on bottom of the engagement ring. Now the jeweler showed us a 1 carat vvs2 H color emerald cut diamond that was in our price range but my question is would I notice a big difference if we went with a 1.5 carat in a I color or J. Also would there be a big price difference? Should I just stay with the 1 carat stone in the middle and the .5 carats on the side? AAAhhh! Please help! I'm confused and not sure what to do!

be sure the stone come with a GIA lab report.

Might want to move this to Rocky Talky! ;)

I can tell a huge diff between a 1 and 1.5 ct. If you do a search, you can look up this downloadable PDF file that has the usual mm of the different ct weights and their shapes on a scaled printable sheet. However, from personal preference, I'd never be able to buy anything for a ring past a J in color. It'd bother me too much. Have you compared the 2 colors/sizes IRL?

Click on the report concern button and ask to move this to rocky Talky.

Also- when you were at the jeweler- what colors did you see in person and what lab was grading them? GIA and AGS are stricter with their grading and a I or J in a well cut GIA or AGS stone will still look good and white to most people. Another lab graded I or J would be closer to a K L M and may have a visible yellow tint to the average person.

There is a big visual difference between 1c and 1.5c...and a massive price difference as well.
The colour will also be more perceptible the larger you go... for a large stone, on a ring, I personally might find J getting down a little towards warm for my personal preferences, particularly in an emerald cut, which will not have the lightplay that covers colour.

My general advice would be to go down a little in clarity to get a larger stone (if indeed, you decide a larger stone is what you need).
However, I think in an Emerald cut that clarity would be more important because, again, the light play will not cover any issues, and that crystal-clear look is the beauty of the Emerald cut diamond.

However, these are all personal preferences and, like husbands  there are no 'wrong' choices.
Just personal choices!

If you have the opportunity to see a variety of Emerald cuts, you will probably get a clearer idea of what you like / don't like.
A lot of 'gospel' associated with round brilliants will not hold true for your favoured cut.

It seems your jewellery may have done his best to get the best stone for you with a lower colour for higher clarity?

How low in clarity is wise for Emerald cut, I'd love to know myself.
