Okay, is anyone else having this problem? Wedding identity. I am actively TRYING to keep this thing contemporary. I''m very conservative. I dress very ann taylor and sometimes I feel... very boring. SO I wanted this wedding to be contemporary and fun and bold.

I WANT to have a fushia bouquet and fushia containers and slashes of bold fushia everywhere. And contemporary invites without inner envelopes. And well... things like that.

But well. Pinks and mauves are appealing to me. And Cranes stationary. And everything traditional and conservative and I''m feeling BORING again.

I don''t know if this even makes any sense. I want to be bold and YOUNG and FUN. But well... my choices are running toward classic and traditional.

Not that things can''t be classic and contemporary... my wedding gown is that. Which is the perfect balance. But well.. I can''t seem to manage to maintain that balance throughout the rest of it. And I want to.

Am I just rambling crazily?

Seriously. Le tme know if I sound insane. I think I''m fixating. ARGH! I wish someone would just pick things for me.

I don''t think traditional is boring at all. It can be classic and hold up against the test of time. Classic means never thinking back when you look at pictures, "What was I thinking!!??"

Don''t try to stray away from who you are!! A wedding is an expression of love and you and your husband.

Maybe, a traditional wedding is right up your alley if it''s the stuff you love. Maybe you can have a traditional wedding with just a couple more trendy things.

It doesn''t matter what anyone else thinks as long as you love it!!

I hear ya ...sometimes it''s tempting to be "different" for the sake of being different ... and COUNTER to some of your more traditional urges. I''ve suprised myself a lot over the process of engagement & wedding planning ... after finding out it''s so much HARDER to be "different" "contemporary" "fun" whatever. I urge you to just try to come up with a balance that represents you as a couple & not worry too much about how it will be perceived.

The mantra I KEEP clinging to: "Better is the enemy of good." Now, if I stumble across "good" - I cling to it like a baby monkey on a mama monkey shaped banana instead of searching aimlessly, fruitlessly, stressfully for "better". Welllllllll - most of the time. Sometimes I search jus'' a leeeeeetle more ... just in case

Ahhh, wedding identity... even if it is rambling crazy, I'm right there with you. My conflict is that there are SO many other weddings going on in our lives next year, all I want to do is set ours apart in some way... but that's so much easier said than done. My solution is to go with what feels right to me. My favorite color is, and has always been, purple... so our color theme is purple (varying shades). Calla lilies are overdone... but I love them, so calla lilies it is. As a notorious over-analyzer about everything in my life (um, you've seen my dress thread)... it is very freeing to just let myself act on instinct and make decisions based on what is most appealing to me (and my fiance, when applicable) on the most primary level.

All that to say... go with what feels right to you. Splashes of fuschia would be fun and interesting and very 2007, but you want to look back at your pix 10, 25, 50 years from now and feel like your wedding was you... not just a sign of the times. I think the more you let yourself go and don't get caught up on one particular thing (contemporary invites, etc), the simpler it will become to find ways of integrating clean and modern elements into the more soft and traditional picture in your head. Ya know?

Okay... so I have some company. Thank God.

Stupid flowers. I KNOW what I want. But I can't have it in September. I can't Tulips or Peonies. Can't.

SO... that leaves a bunch of flowers that are LOVELY. But well... I want peonies or tulips. I'm clearly insane.

My centerpieces? No problem. Got them priced out, planned an even bought the supllies for them today when I was in AC Moore. They will be white. Boxes? Silver. Ribbon? Match my bouquet.

My bouquet. That I want Peonies and Tuilips for. Oh and Lilly of the Valley. I've lost my mind. I'm fixating. But it's bugging the crap out of me that I can't have those and have to pick something else.

I'm thinking Gardenias and Mini Callas. I have a pic. Don't want white mini callas though. What I want is fat peonies or sleek tulips.

But I keep thinking how EASY it would be to do Anna Roses. Light bridal pink. Then the whole wedding would be soft pink and silver. Then I get hives because it reminds me of a baby shower. Then I think... but it's classic. Pale pink. Roses.

Then I could do flame colors. Oranges, and reds, and apricots with whites. Very striking. Bold. And in september? Easy as cake. Contemporary.

Nope.

Could be worse I suppose.

ETA: I just read that. I need to STEP AWAY from the flowers. They are just flowers. Need to keep repeating that. Okay... gonna go have some chocolate... AH!!! I just remembered. I'm PMSing. WHEW! Okay. It all become clear. I admittedly always get a bit... 'bat shit crazy' right about now. Nice to see I'm following that trend. Gonna go read a book. Night ladies.

Hey I picked my flowers out about 3 weeks before my wedding so relax, you have plenty of time

I think our wedding was elegant and simple which made it modern (in my mind). I think your venue can REALLY set the tone. If you pick more of a loft/urban space it will feel modern. You can always bring colors in the linens. They have amazing selections. (I am a chair cover whore

). Ours where white with black satin ties and I felt like it looked very contemporary.

i think i''m the opposite. i want classic all the way... i wanted a PLAIN dress. what do i ended up with?? a sparkly reem gown. urgh!
i didn''t want roses. specifically red or black magic roses because everyone uses them. then after i went round and round with the color palette, the flowers are red! and roses. probably black magic. but i don''t feel so bad after seeing gingerB''s fab. lush roses.

no matter how classic i want to be, i can''t surpress that little girl in me that loves everything sparkle. sigh.

so i think you should let that classic girl out too!
