Contrasting wedding band?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here. I've recently found this board. My wallet is terrified!

Anyway, I have recently ordered a custom engagement ring. It is a modest 14k yellow gold ring with a 0.6ct fancy yellow pear center stone and fancy intense yellow halo.

I planned to get a normal 14k yellow gold wedding band. But I've been pondering the idea of getting a contrasting 14k white gold band instead. I have a lot of yellow going on already and I feel it might be really nice to have some contrast.

Anyway, can anyone show me their engagement ring with a band of another color? I have tried searching on Google and the forums search but I'm not getting great results.

Thanks so much!

Welcome! :wavey: Best newcomer intro ever: “my wallet is terrified”

This is the set I’ve been wearing the last couple months.

Oh! I hope we get some more posts on this thread! I have a platinum e-ring and am planning on a YG wedding band.

Check out the "stack of the day thread." Lots of mixing metals there.

Welcome to PS and I'm sorry to hear that your wallet doesn't feel so welcomed.

My SO wanted matching wedding bands and likes this rose gold branch ring, so...

And on some days, this happens too...

So I'd say, "Rock it and rock on!". I bet your set will be gorgeous too!

Ooh I can play! Mine is a platinum ering with a YG/WG orange blossom band. I originally thought I wanted a matching band in white metal but it turns out I just have to have a mixed set

Yes I love mixing metals. No right or wrong here. It's an individual preference.

Here is a combo of vintage and modern cut with platinum, 18K rose gold, 18K yellow gold and white gold. Modern cut pink diamonds and antique diamonds and french cut antique sapphires.

And don't worry. Our wallets appreciate the excitement.

I mix my metals all of the time, it’s metalpalozza up in here. My wedding band is YG 18 carat, very plain, and the rings I wear with it vary from white, rose to platinum. Here it is with a white gold and YG center setting ring.

And I wear my band on my right hand for a few months and then switch back to my left. Keeps my ring finger sizes more consistent on either hand.

 My wallet is terrified!
That is a good one!

I mix metals between pieces but usually do ering the same color as the band.

Welcome to pricescope ! It is a fun group and don’t worry- just tell the wallet it is a website that has helped many wallets lose any “extra” weight they had been hanging on to and just needed motivation.

I mix metals on my right hand pretty much every day, as I wear a plain 18ct yellow gold Lucida band on there all the time. I will often wear my platinum full eternity with it, or my pink sapphire. My little sister was engaged with an antique platinum princess cut solitaire ring with pave shoulders, and she used my grandmothers 22ct yellow gold wedding ring. Here are some pictures.

If my phone wasn't messed up right now and refusing to take pictures, I would be having fun in my jewelry box for sure :)

I love mixing metals, last year I bought myself a pretty little plain gold band (my original wedding set is yellow gold, the band is too small now, and because if the design, I don't want to try to resize) and find myself pairing it with all my yellow and white pieces.

And, just a thought: If a yellow gold band with a white gold engagement ring works for Duchess Catherine, and Queen Elizabeth, it's good for me, too!

eta: I found a few pictures already on my computer. Sorry for the big, blurry pictures. The solid band and the sapphire/diamond band are yellow. The string bands, the halo ring and the 7 stone are white gold. I especially love how the yellow gold band compliments the yellow diamond in my halo ring.

Thanks very much to everyone who has posted! These are all awesome beyond belief!:shock:

It definitely makes me much more motivated to go for the mixed metal option.

By the way, I had no idea the Queen had a gold band and white engagement ring. I love it!

@Jujeh, I have a Y-Z pear in a yg halo with yellow diamonds, so not as intense as yours but the same style...I'm away from home right now and I don't think I have a white gold band with me...but tomorrow I will take a pic with a wg ring turned around to give you an idea as to how it will look.

Give us an updated band family shot...

Actually, let me start a new thread so I don’t further derail this one ::)

@tkyasx78 Hahahaha!!! You ladies crack me up!

This is a bit shameful when I put all of it on 2 fingers. I have two more on order too. Not a great pic either at night.

Stunning @junebug17 :kiss2: Love the combo on you!

And I puffy heart your pear. So much!

@junebug17 Wow! Your ring is magnificent.:o

I think it looks really good with the white gold band as well!

Thanks very much for sharing!

As the mantra here goes - "It only matters if YOU like it." I DO like contrasting bands and often wear mixed metals; however, to my eye, not all combinations are created equal. Some look amazing and eye-catching and (again to ME), some look odd and detract from the overall look. I like matched metals for my actual set and mixed metals for stacking bands that aren't actually my wedding band, but I play around with on a daily basis. Now that I've typed that I'm not sure anything I just said is of ANY help. Try on lots bf you decide! Good luck!

I hope it's okay to post a link, I can't figure out how to just post the picture. This is the Queen's set, and Duchess Catherine has the same band, as do most of the Royal brides/grooms, the gold is from the same nugget of Welsh gold that's been used for a long time. From what I've read, there is very little, if any, of that gold left. I'm not sure, but the Queen's engagement ring may be platinum.
