I am in the process of setting my original diamond (a .27 marquise) in an east-to-west fashion in a custom setting. I sent pictures of a RB setting that I liked to the jeweler, especially a side shot where you can see lots of detailing in the head that holds the stone. They are telling me that because it''s a marquise set E-W, that it won''t look the same. If you look at this profile shot, could you tell if it is a marquise or a RB?

what i can tell from that picture, is that it is not a marquise that is set e-w.
would the prongs on a .27 stone accomodate such ornate detail? it seems like it would be overpowering for that size stone.

I agree with Belle. A .27 ct. diamond is going to drown in that setting.

It''s pretty though, and I think that for a larger marquise it''d be perfect.

I''m sure that you can get the jeweler to make you something that''s *inspired* by this ring that will work well for your stones shape and size. There''s a thread floating around somewhere feauturing different kinds of ornate gallery and prong areas. Maybe it will give you even more ideas! Good luck! I''m sure this will be pretty.

Hi & welcome to Pricescope!

I think the setting is lovely. In all honesty though, I''d have to agree that it''s ornate detail might drown out a .27 stone. Keep looking, there are lots of options and I''m sure you''ll find one which suits all aspects of the stone.

If a stone is smaller, then the detail can be made less ornate and smaller...jewelers can customize the setting for your stone. It may not be as ornate or elaborate but I am sure a skilled jeweler can make something that encorporates the "look" you want. Just collect a bunch of pictures of stuff you like and bring them to various jewelers to get their opinion

I agree with Belle, I can tell that is not a marquise set east -west. your jeweler will be able to tell if he can do something similar for your stone.

This might be the thread Velouria was talking about. You may get some great ideas there.
Good Luck!
