Hi everyone,
Fi and I decided we wanted some creative popular songs to walk down the isle to instead of the traditional canon in D, wedding march, etc. songs.

I thought some songs like "all you need is love" by the beetles or something like that would be really fun!!

Keep in mind that an organist will playing it, so it needs to have a main melody that people would recognize and would still sound good on an organ. The church is up for it and my parents are cool with the idea...so all is a go with creativity!

Any ideas??? Thanks for your help!!!

Chapel of Love
I''m sorry, I''m not good with songs who sings chapel of love?

I found this list on about.com

Contemporary Songs Appropriate for Wedding Ceremonies

"At Last" (Etta James)
"Only Time" (Enya)
"Come Away With Me" (Norah Jones)
"Appalachia Waltz" (Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Mark O''Connor)
"Unforgettable" (Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole)
"It''s Only Time" (Magnetic Fields)
"The Look of Love" (Dionne Warwick/Burt Bacharach)
"The Vow" (Jeremy Lubbock)
"Come What May" (Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor)
"Storybook Love" from the movie "The Princess Bride" (Willy DeVille)
"Wedding Processional" (from The Sound of Music) (Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein)
"Can''t help falling in love" (Elvis Presley)
"What A Wonderful World" (Louis Armstrong)
"When I''m Sixty-Four" (The Beatles)

We''re doing "Amazing Grace" acappella, as close to the Patsy Cline version as possible.

Gospel music or other vocal religious music is still formal-ish but more original I think.

These are great!!!! I knew there were some creative gals out there!

What about "Can''t Help Falling in Love" by Elvis? The UB40s version rocks too!

Not sure how creative this is, but... I will be walking down the aisle to "One Hand, One Heart", which was composed by Leonard Bernstein for West Side Story. It is a beautiful classicial piece that I think would sound lovely on the organ. Other classical pieces are Meditation from Thais and Handel''s Largo. For my wedding I really wanted classical music (string quartet is playing), but like you, I wanted to avoid the traditional Canon in D route. These were all good alternatives. Good luck!

Nancy Grace revealed that she was recently married a day or two ago. The article I read said she walked down the aisle to "Moon River," which is her favorite song. I thought that was a great choice, maybe it would work for you since the tune is very recognizable?

I LOVE that song Lil! We used "One Hand, One Heart" for our sand ceremony. We had a flamenco guitarist playing for our ceremony and he played "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" during my processional.

kcourselle: I think it''s really cool that you are doing non-traditional music for your wedding. You''ve got some great suggestions here!! With an organ you can choose so many songs that sound great but aren''t the run of the mill processional and recesstional songs.

If you like the stones, Start Me Up could be great! We actually used it for our entrance to the reception song...but i think it would be so fun to walk down the aisle to!

ETA: never mind, that would NOT sound good on an organ. Hee hee.

I have some friends, and during their wedding the groom and groomsmen walked in from the side to Imperial March from Starwars. She entered to Masterpiece Theatre''s Theme Song.

We used lots of pop music for our wedding. For the before wedding music playing while people were seated we played:

I Do (Cherish You)
If I Can''t Have You
Amazed
You''re the Inspiration
Truly Madly Deeply
Forever And For Always
Make Someone Happy
Breathe
Sails (Chet Atkins).

The last song before the actual ceremony was Jimmy Durante''s "Back in the Saddle Again" from the Sleepless in Seattle Soundtrack. It was a 2nd marriage for both of us. I think this song definitely got the most comments. People were just cracking up.

For the actual processional we used "How Deep is Your Love" by the Bee Gees. It was "our" song and we decided to use it.

All of these were done off an IPOD with huge speaker system so a bit different than an organist playing them. Good luck in your selections.

I would actually consider walking down the aisle (as in, instead of the Bridal March) to Shania Twain''s (and a guy she is in duet with) "From this moment on". Every time I hear the begining to this song and then the words, I just get goose bumps.
