I can see the finish line!!!! Okay so I’ve been working with Amy on this engagement ring and we’ve come down to this final CAD. I’m no professional, so if there’s something wrong with it, please let me know!

There is one aspect that concerns me—we are doing a 14k YG shank with a Platinum head. We want this to still be a timeless piece, which pushes me to go with YG everywhere…but then I’m also concerned with my H ACA diamond possibly looking yellow or buttery. My ring was an H color diamond and it was 100% 14 ct yellow. I loved the color contrast of the diamond with my prongs. Now I have I color diamond with platinum prongs and I miss the contrast.

There is one professional jeweler on PS who has a warm colored diamond in YG setting and he loves the contrast. Stated that his diamond looks even whiter in YG. I can't help you with CAD but I can see how beautiful your ring is going to be.

I don’t think an H is going to look warm in yellow gold at all, and it’s such a classic look. An H reflects very white and bright face up, unless you’re very color sensitive.

I love the halo orientation of your CAD. Already beautiful! So excited for the finished ring!

shift the smalls half a stone to the left or the right so the center prongs are not going to fall off.
Really dumb!

What would cause them to fall off? Are you just recommending that the halo be pushed out a tad all the way around?

rotate diamonds half a diamond so the prongs are not undercut and fit between 2 diamonds

Ah that makes sense! I’ll call them tomorrow to get it fixed. Thank you!

My opinion is that the H will still look like an H. The color of the metal may reflect through the diamond but it doesn't change the color of the diamond, and I personally find it still easy to tell a whiter diamond from a less white one even if the whiter one is in yellow gold. But I guess YMMV.

What would you prefer to have as far as metal color? I don't think going 2 tone takes it out of classic. I think it makes it more
versatile as far as wearing different colors of metal rings with it. I think your H will pop in yellow gold, however, I'm not aways
a fan of how a pave halo looks in yellow gold. With white gold the halo looks more fluid because you don't so much notice the metal
between the smaller stones. When going with yellow gold the yellow interrupts the flow because you do notice the yellow gold
between the stones. YMMV...this is just my* opinion and neither choice would be wrong. Plus it depends on how good the bench is.
DKs benches are pretty good at setting stones closely. Full disclosure...I have a 2 tone ring and really love the added interest.

Just some images to see if you have a preference of one over the over...

I agree that gold pave is not the most fluid look. I think I'm going to stick with the two-tone since my SO does tend to wear a lot of silver on a regular basis. If I was going with just a solitaire, I would probably go with 100% YG, but I feel that a YG halo would give the ring a more antique vibe, which is not what she wants.

Thank y'all for allowing me to critically think about this before pulling the trigger. I will be sure to upload photos of the ring once it arrives!

@creightonk
I would ask to see the gallery view angle shots in the cad, also, if you are picky of what that view looks like. (I am)

As for the prong location - I wouldn't go so far as to say you will be getting a design that gives you undercut prongs where you should worry about stability/structural integrity.
By all means - ask this very question to Amy/David of the concerns. Put your trust into them and their reply. Are they planning on putting a smaller size melee there, and the cad doesn’t really reflect that due to whatever reason? That may be what this is. I think I’ve seen this happen here where the cad didn’t reflect the real outcome, but I’ve also seen where the cad image is really what was produced.

If you look through DK’s Instagram, you will find similar halos done with prongs between melee, prongs in front of a melee stone that’s a smaller diameter from the rest, prongs in front of melee the same size, and prong in front of a metal space. Knowing what you wish to see, and don’t wish to see, and verbalizing (with pictures) that to DK - I think is helpful in getting closer to your cad vision quicker.
Simply requesting to DK ‘put the prong between two halo melee’ will give you a cad with (IMO) drastically different look from what you have now.
Discuss with them whether it’s change of the halo shape/proportion or melee size so what you see in cad doesn’t have unintended consequences.

asking these questions to DK (and here) are valid. Better off now than after it’s done.

I love 2 tone rings. They are versatile and have extra visual interest, so I would go with that.

i think an ACA would be so well cut that the color of the metal won't make an impact...it's leaky stones that soak up more of the color of metal surrounding them. two-tone, on the other hand, is a classic combo, lots of vintage rings have it...so do whichever is going to make you happiest, it will look great either way. =)

I don't think you (As a member of the trade) are allowed to specifically criticize other vendors' works. Also, it is pretty insulting to imply that DK would make something where the prongs would "fall off". His reputation is not for making sub-par work.
