I''m pulling together a classic outfit for my husband - navy blazer, gray slacks and striped Polo shirt. Picked up some wool stacks yesterday but they have CUFFS. Is that detail IN or OUT?

Thanks!

Ohhh, I think its out. but I could be wrong. I''ve been out of corporate America for a few years now (4) so I''m not as well versed as I used to be.

Howev-ah...I do buy my husand''s work clothes, and the last few rounds of suiting from Nordstrom have been sans cuffs.

Of course if its something you already have in his closet, as long as its classically cut & the cuff isn''t too small or too big, you should be ok. Menswear isn''t as do or die as women''s fashion.

Cuffs aren''t necessarily out, but with the polo shirt, I would opt for no cuffs.

I love a cuff on a nice pair of pants!!! So not "out"! (but hey, what do I really know...)

But I agree, no cuffs with a polo.

HI:

IMHO, out.

cheers--Sharon

When DH has suits made he always gets a pair of trousers with cuffs and a pair without. However, none of the trousers he would wear with a polo have cuffs. HTH!

is classic gray or khaki these days? i always see navy with khaki worn. and agree with the other gals, no cuffs with a polo.

and GAH no pleats. it always drives me crazy when i see guys pants with pleats. those things are hideous on any human, male or female, at any age!!

This cracks me up. Now that TGuy is in a corp environment, he has to dress up, so we went pant shopping a few weeks ago.

He held up one for me to inspect. I shook my head and said, "Cuffs."

Then another. I shook my head more vigorously and exclaimed, "Pleats!"

Then I don''t know if he was teasing me, but held up another, and I was like "Ack! Pleats! Cuffs!"

That was the theme of the day. "Pleats! Cuffs!"

lol TG...greg went shopping one day without me and brought home pants with PLEATS. i was like what is this the 80s? do you want to create an insta belly? seriously!!! he was like ''what? they''re nice!''...ARGH. i just tell him that thankfully this means i don''t have to worry about any chicks trying to pick up on him at work with those pleated pants going on. HEE.

Bahahaha...too funny! Men seem to think that pleats are "fine." I also notice a correlation between this thought and the OLDER they get.

TGuy already has a belly, so his just looks like gut-deluxe in pleats!!

Well, clearly I know NOTHING!

But I don''t let DH buy pleats. He''s had that beat into his head enough.

I will continue to let him buy cuffs though because I still find them swoon-worthy and I see them here on the east coast much more often than I guess you would on the west coast. He''s so tall that he has a hard time finding pants that are cuff-able, but when he does I swear it makes my heart skip a beat. It looks so much more finished to me because they have to be done for you. At least at his inseam they do.

I have to agree with Mara on this one... I usually see navy blazers paired with khakis. Now corporate america... maybe a different story. It all depends on function. You certainly wouldn't wear khaki/blazer combo to an executive board meeting or a suit to off-site training. I usually know when my DH is headed for a "big" meeting versus meeting with a coach. So IMHO - it depends on the function.

But back to the topic - no cuffs with a polo shirt.

LOL, I actually go the opposite way on the pleats thing--I associate no pleats with old men in golf pants! Fortunately the HH is partial to pleats (and I never really thought about them on a conscious level until THIS MINUTE, LOL). And now that I''m considering it, I like cuffs too!

OMG, pleats are absolutely the worst thing ever. I don''t think I''ve ever had a pair of pants with pleats, but I do have a few with cuffs, because sometimes it''s appropriate.

hehe...i associate pleats with ''Dad''...but my Dad doesn''t even wear pleats. he''s so hip, it''s almost painful. I think he has a pair of Seven jeans.

Greg is old school east coast and called non-plated pants ''teenybopper'' pants but then i show him Banana''s stylin'' professional men wearing...you guessed it FLAT FRONT pants and looking quite nice....and he''s like hrm. And those models aren''t anywhere near young age!!

it''s funny because there are a lot of things i am like ''seriously, you wear that?'' and it''s an ''east coast'' vs ''west coast'' thing. EC''s think that WC''s look sloppy and WC''s think EC''s look stuffy. go figure!!

HI:

heh heh You almost can''t buy golf pants without cuffs or pleats! Yikes! I managed to find two pair of flat panel golf pants last year for my DH, and had the cuffs removed........

cheers--Sharon

oh Jo I just asked Greg about the whole khaki vs gray slacks for the ''classic'' look and he said it''s khaki, that is the look that came out in the early 80''s i guess? If that is what is classic?!?!? (man i feel old).

and even though he does wear pleats sometimes and makes me question his fashion judgement

.... he has worn a variety of professional dress, mostly suits (even has 2 three piece suits), for the last 15 years, so he does know his work dress quite well.

just figured i''d toss that in there in case you were still reading!! oh and i guess he also says that some of his suits have cuffs. i never even noticed!

I feel very strongly about this. OUT OUT D*MN CUFFS!!!

I hate them so. Same goes for pleated front pants. After 25 years of corporate wear, I've finally convinced my husband to ditch both. The very first thing people said was "Have you lost weight? You look younger!". I rest my case.

ETA: It's not usually an issue with the cuffs actually being on to begin with, DH has short legs, so all pants must be altered anyway.
