Custom Bezel Cost

Hi Guys! I got an estimate for setting Col. Mustard. $150 for a custom 18k YG bezel. Is this a little high? Or do you think it's about right? It includes fabricating the setting and putting the setting in the band. That is of course if the person who sets the stones for the vendor thinks he can do it.

I'm confused, and partly because I can't see photos on PS20 with my IE browser version, but that's another story.

Is the $150 for making the whole ring with materials (I highly doubt that)
Is it for just the labor
Is it for the labor + material for making a bezel in an existing ring.

If the answer is yes to the third question, than that's a fair price.

In all seriousness...I'm not sure about the cost, not sure exactly what it entails. Finished piece or just the bezel work? Gold is kinda 'spensive these days.

It is the third option. Material, fabrication and setting in a band.


Lady D, will a bezel soften the angles? I really hope not. That's one of the reasons I recruited the Col.

I think its fair, but you can always ask quotes from a lot of the other vendors/artisans that PS'ers often use for their bezels if you want a second opinion.

I agree then, it is a fair price. My jeweler charged me that much to bezel a round 1/2 carat diamond in 18K gold. Your stone is a bit more complex since it's a kite shape. My jeweler charges fair pricing (for me anyways).

For labor and materials it sounds reasonable to me too. With regard to the point, they can either wrap it or join it at that end. Ask how they will do it and if there are any risks to the stone with either approach.

It is really a lovely stone.

$150 is a good price for modification to an existing ring to make it a bezel. While it is possible to bezel such a pointy end, it will require a lot of care.
