Hi,
I have some diamonds from my grandmother''s ring that I am planning to re-use. I''ve already had them taken apart so I know what I have. I wondered if, instead of just relying on a local store, I should try one of the well known online stores on PS. Do you know who does custom work and who would you recommend? I am looking for something pretty simple and cost to me is important. I''ve never had anything custom done before or ordered anything big online, so am a little nervous about sending off the diamonds but if it''s worth it, I''d do it.

Thanks!

Custom can be very difficult if doing it via long distance/online because miscommunication can happen easily. The other thing to consider is whether you just need a benchperson or a designer. A bench person will create exactly you envision and a designer will make his vision come to life with some of your input. If the vendor has something that you like but with some modifications, it is certainly easier. Lots of pictures will help clarify the design.

Hi Dixie-I just received a diamond and aquamarine band that I had custom made by Greenlake Jewelry Works (www.gljw.com). I''m thrilled with it, and I highly recommend them. I picked a design from their (very extensive) online gallery and had them modify it for me. They sourced the stones for the ring, but they will also work with your own stones. They have a design page that you can use to communicate with them if you''re not local to Seattle.

Chrono, thanks for the info. I have never heard of a bench person so it''s good to know the difference.

Selkie, thank you for the site. They do seem to have a great site and I''m going to try and contact them.

Any others? I know I hear about Whiteflash, Blue Nile and a few others on here frequently. Do they all do custom pieces?

Thank you!
