I’d like to share my custom cutting project of a Zircon!

Jeff White is cutting one for me from a large piece (16.44 ct) of Cambodian rough material that he purchased in Tucson this February. He says the material is a nice medium tone/saturation blue.

The goal is for an OEC design but if not possible then a MRB in the range of 5-5.8 ct. I have very specific parameters because this Zircon will be set in my VC Lillian halo that held my 4ct OEC.

My piece is one of the upper left 2 pieces in the photo below. He also sent me mock ups of optimization of each cut design. Ignore the color in them, it’s not true to the real gemstone color.

I’ll return with photos once the gemstone is cut, then with the completed ring.

Exciting project! I hope the OEC turns out to be possible!

Looking forward to see the finished stone and ring!

DK :))

Yes! Exciting and wonderful you get to utilize a beautiful setting you have.
I wonder what’s the deciding factor(s) of the OEC cut not being possible? That’s interesting.

Can’t wait to see this. How long does this kind of thing take?

Jeff is always busy, therefore, I would advise to allow for at least 3 months, providing he already has the rough available for a custom order.

He is a big of a magpie in terms of roughs. The rough of the small Baringo Ruby (a neon pink Sapphire) he cut for me recently was purchased in 2008/9!

Therefore, it is worth contacting him to see if he has any suitable roughs tucked away as he does not advertise his inventory (too busy to list them I am guessing).

I am guessing because the Zircon is being cut to specific dimensions in order to fit bright ice's pre-existing VC Lillian Halo setting ... once the rough is on the wheel, he'll get a better sense of its yield, and then will be able to figure out whether the proportions of the OEC or the MRB is the better design for this specific rough to end up with the required dimensions...

This is a very exciting project, bright ice - thanks for inviting us along!

Wow! Exciting project

I believe it’s the depth of the piece of rough that he’ll be working with. There will be a fair sum of waist due to my needing very specific measurements.

Yes @marymm, you are correct. I’m happy to share my journey!

There are just not enough colored gems cut in an OEC style. I can’t wait to see the finished product (which is bound to be gorgeous no matter the cut).

I have the finished results of the zircon that I’m thrilled to share with y’all! It’s 5.81 ct, 10.39 x 10.39 x 6.10

It’ll be shipped directly to VC for setting into my Lillian halo, I’ll then post the completed ring.

Here’s the direct link of it on Jeff’s website.
