To all CVB Dahlia owners: I recently read a thread where Kayla17 stated that the Dahlia setting makes a diamond appear larger.

On a 7.2 mm stone, how much larger will this setting make it appear? I really like the setting and I am always interested in making my e-ring appear larger ... especially with a ring as beautiful as the Dahlia. Also, does anyone have this ring with 6 prongs instead of 8?

Hi! I had an 8.6 mm diamond and I guesstimate that the Dahlia with the silhouette effect made my diamond look closer to 9 mm. I actually first upgraded to a 9.3 mm (3 carat) diamond and returned it bc to me it looked about as big as my 8.6 mm in the Dahlia setting.
So your diamond should visually look close to 7.5- 7.8 mm depending on how wide the basket it. There's also a David Klass setting that goldenfire has that also gives a visually larger appearance.
But I think I prefer the look of the Dahlia.

Thanks so much kayla17. You have been a huge help. I have been looking for the perfect setting and this may be exactly what I have been looking for. This could cure my DSS, at least for a little while.

It's a gorgeous setting. I would make it with 6 prongs if 2 cts or under.

Thanks diamondseeker, that's EXACTLY what I was thinking. I want to make sure that the design along the sides of the diamond allow for easy cleaning as well!

My thinking, as well!!! Are you doing all platinum or a gold shank?

I currently have platinum and I just really don't love the dull grey. I am considering white gold. I love the look of the rose gold Dahlia but I don't have any rose gold in my jewelry box. I would like the versatility of being able to wear different bands with the e-ring.

Here is my Dahlia, 18k yellow gold shank and platinum prongs. 1.22 Ct old mine diamond, a slight oval rather than round. I have 8 prongs... I looked at the cads with 6 and 8 and went with the 8. It just looked better with the shape of my diamond .
I'm still loving it after months of wear, it delights me every time I look at it! I'm happy to say that this band is coming to me from FedEx today! I'm so excited! Caysie recommended it at the time my ring was being made, but I had to wait a few months so my sweet husband wouldn't have a heart attack!

I thought the 8 prongs would look too busy but it looks perfect with your diamond. Did you find that it made your diamond look larger? Is it easy enough to clean? The band looks amazing ... truly gorgeous! I can't wait to see it all together on your finger. Please, please post a pic for us when you get it.

I have no problem cleaning it, I use a soft brush and warm soapy water. I like to blow it dry with my hair dryer.

Congratulations!! Your new band is super pretty. The threesome looks great!

I wonder if your ring is 950 platinum with 5% iridium, because that is a softer alloy and scratches more easily. In any event, all you have to do is have it polished to look like new. White gold has to be plated and it wears off and shows yellow underneath. I'd rhodium plate platinum before I'd go with white gold and at least white would be under the plating! But Caysie uses a harder platinum alloy anyway.

This is a really good idea if you like the look of REALLY bright white rhodium... Good call, DS! This way, if you ever came around to the steely gray look of platinum patina, it's under there when the rhodium wears off! Win-win! :D

What do you think of palladium white gold for white color without plating?.
