Welcome back ladies.

So, being the new year and all, I decided to face up to the fact that I cannot eat and drink whatever I want and that I actually did go up a full pant size, eventhough I was trying to eat better. So, I went to Weight Watchers. I was shocked and appalled by how much I weighed. It was 20 pounds heavier than I had ever (thought) I weighed. So, I now have a new mindset that I will get up even if I''''m tired and workout (though it didn''''t work this morning... but it''''s Monday...). I am following the points plan to the letter (or number, ha ha). My boyfriend said there will lots of rewards if I really follow it and go to the gym even when my trainer is not there. I need him to understand though that by eating less than I''''m supposed to will not be helpful and if I have enough points to have a glass of wine, that it''''s not a bad thing that I actually have a glass of wine.

So far, so good... but I only started Saturday. My goal is to reach my 10% (lose 10% of my weight) by my birthday in April. I would love to lose faster, but I think this is a realistic goal.

I''''ve also resolved to floss my teeth every night.

I hope we can keep up this workout thread... it''''s really helpful!

Oh boy are we in the same boat! I''ve gained about 20 pounds in the last couple of years too! I finally broke down and joined a gym this past October, and it was going pretty well until the holidays! Mondays I am never, ever motivated to go as well...the personal trainer gal who did my orientation put it in my head that Mondays were really busy days there, so ever since then even though I always vow during the weekend that I will go to the gym first thing Monday morning, I have this mental block about not being able to get a machine when I get there, so I don''t go! It''s terrible! ROFL.

I didn''t set any weight loss goals when I first started, I just wanted to be more active since I switched to a desk job last year and wasn''t on my feet moving around all the time. Alas, even though I was working out a few times a week, no weight came off. I have finally admitted to myself also that I can''t just eat whatever I want anymore! So my goal now is to lose 10 pounds by the Superbowl (just because it''s the only event I can think of where I will be around a lot of other people in the near future, silly, I know!) and then another 10 by April because we have a trip to Mexico planned. As far as dieting, I just need to quit scarfing down fried/processed foods and eat more fresh fruits and veggies! I just hate having to go to the grocery store every few days for fresh produce--I''m a huge fan of frozen munchies, they''re SO easy!

Well you can definitely have frozen veggies... these days there are bags of anything you can think of!

Frozen yummies are always easier. But I find that if I buy veggies, I know they will go bad soon so I eat them as quickly as possible.

I am off to a rotten start this morning, I drank two diet cokes for breakfast...

I was thinking of planning my meals out for a week at a time, to try and force myself to stay on track, what do ya''ll think?

MandyPandy- one of my girlfriends had GREAT success with Weight Watchers- good luck!
Monarch- I would never set a goal of exercising first thing in the morn... esp. Mondays! You can substitute frozen vegis for some of the fresh and it helps in eating the amount you want- although I never quite get to the 5 daily thing.
Mata- I LOVE Diet coke- my boyfriend teases me I drink a six pack a day. I usually do put down 3 a day... oh well. Better than eating a lot I say!

I started the day with whole wheat pancakes with blueberries and sugar free syrup- ymmm!! And Mata- I do plan my meals by week- not only to help me stay healthy but to save money at the grocery store! So I look at what meats are on sale and plan my meals around that- opening up my cookbook and cooking magazine. I often have to substitute ingredients, but I find something tasty and new to try every week usually. Now if I would just motivate myself to do 5 or 6 days in the gym instead of the 3 I actually make it we''d be good!

I always found it very hard to plan out meals a week in advance. I think planning out meals for the next day to be much more managable.

I did Weight Watchers about 5.5 years ago and had tremendous success with it. I realized that I really need to keep a food journal in order for this to really work. So, that''s what I''m doing!

I also discovered something cool today -- pepermint water. It really curbs the appittite!

AP- I lost 20 pounds a few years ago on ww. those pounds never came back! It also helped me learn how much food i should be eating.

Now i''m trying a south beach (or modified SB) I had scrambled eggs and a glass of water for breakfast. Went to a 45 min pilates class then 30 minutes on precor. I was a 129lbs this morning. I dont think i have ever been under 130! It is so exciting to see the weightloss! Buying my dress this weekend has propelled me to loose 10 more pounds by june (when i get my alterations).

Just ate a hard boiled egg, raw broccoli and cheese cubes and a bottle of water. This drinking water thing really fills you up!

I''ve found that it''s easier for me to bring my lunch to work, since I work from 7-4 every Mon.-Fri.. I don''t get here late enough to eat breakfast at home, and all the places around here to get breakfast are either sit-downs (Carrows) or bagel and cream cheese places. So, this morning I had a few small pretzels (I like to eat the nubs on the ends) and a small strawberry applesauce (no sugar added). I brought a salad from Trader Joes (they have a salad that has artichokes and hearts of palm, with roasted almond slices!!) and a sugar free peach jello. Also, in case I get hungry for a snack, I brought a fruit gel (like jello, but with real fruit in it, they''re yummy) that''s pears in strawberry kiwi gel. No sugar added. I''m lucky, we have a water cooler, so I never have to leave to get water, because I have to have it cold. My real vice is unsweetened iced tea. It sucks because one floor down from me I have a starbucks, a mexican place, an italian place, and three burger joints. Luckily, I also have two "city''s best" salad bar places. No, I don''t work in a mall.

I also have a subway here, but after 6.5 years here, I get tired of subway. My problem is fries. I love them. So I try to fill myself in on tons of good for me stuff. I''m trying to find celery sticks that come with the ranch. I only like celery, not carrots or broccoli to eat cold. I am so darn picky. And don''t even talk about desk jobs- I''ve been at one for 6.5 years, like I said. and I have gained so much weight. It makes me sad. My aunt made me a baby book (up to this christmas) and I see all these old pictures of me, and I''m like, oh, I was so thin!! And she did the nicest thing by making it for me, but it just depressed me to see how much weight I''ve gained.

Stupid desk job.

I forgot to add that not only do we have tons of food places, but we also have a Weight Watchers!! Is it expensive?

Weight Watchers is $13 per week here in NYC. I don''t know what it is around the rest of the country.

Tonight I have my first big test since I am going out to dinner (non-sushi). I hate making a scene by asking all sorts of specific requirements... no oil or butter, dressing on the side... stuff like that. But, I guess I''ll have to. I ate lots of low points stuff so far today, so I have a lot to spend tonight!

One of my gf's just went back on WW after the holiday, it worked for her before the holidays, she lost about 20lbs or so.

I definitely did a back-slide over the holidays but it was conscious, I made an agreement with myself that I didn't want to be feeling guilty and watching calories over the holiday. I didn't slack off on working out til the last 2 weeks of the year when my kbox studio was closed. Anyway I am back on it, and walking as well, we got two iPods for Xmas (shuffle and a mini) so we are all loaded up with tunes...

My goal is to lose about another 10 lbs before bikini season (aka April or so), that should take me to where I want to be. Now just to GET IT DONE. After all the carbs I ate over the holidays I actually find myself craving things like salads and fresh items. So I guess that's a good thing?!?

Oh and one huge measure of my success is that I do plan out my meals, usually a day in advance or even just mentally. aka tomorrow morning I will have XYZ and for lunch XYZ and for dinner XYZ, I do all the shopping for us so it's pretty easy to go to Whole Foods or similar daily and pick up our meals for the next day. Greg gets his 'bad food' at lunch without me when he is at work, so he doens't feel deprived.

Good luck gals!!!

Ava and I went five miles, it is so nice to her back in alabama with me.

ugh, I didnt make it to the gym today...I worked till 7:30 and then just went out with bf to dinner (he was nice enough to come pick me up rather than me taking the T, so I took him to dinner), and now I''m watching tv and web surfing......does that count as exercise ??? LOL

One thing that has helped me kick-start weight loss in the past has been writing down everything I eat. It really makes you want to avoid those unnecessary junk food snacks or dips into the candy jar at work or wherever. If you have the patience to keep up with it for a week, you really notice where you''re getting those extra calories.

As far as cooking for my husband, I gave up meat this past September. I''m not saying it''s for everyone, but I have never liked any kind of meat since I was a child, and finally I said to myself, why am I eating something I really don''t care for? I still eat eggs, cheese and milk, but I don''t eat any red meat, chicken, fish or processed meats, period. I feel a lot better, but it could just be due to an increased intake of green veggies and fruits. When I cook for my husband, I make him whatever meat we have on hand and about three sides of veggies, including a fresh salad, and one starch to make him happy. I just eat the veggies and the starch, and I''m all good. I ate so much crap over the holidays that I haven''t noticed a difference in weight, but now I''m getting back on track and am looking forward to reaping the benefits!
