I am tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired....

Overslept this morning (probably because I was up half the night looking at pear sapphires and trillions) and rushed out of bed to get to the gym for my 5mile run...

Truth be told, I wasn't really up for it but surprisingly, the girl I run with was all determined to do the full 5 mile run so I couldn't say no (I'm only mildly competitive but I felt as if I would be letting her down otherwise). I am nursing two blisters the size of texas on my big toes, so it wasn't too much fun... but I managed. Now I really need to figure out a way to cushion them so they heal. Also might need to switch running shoes for a bit.

Aaaaaaaanyway, I have taken today off from work... so it should be a nice, relaxing day... which I will likely spend... you guessed it... looking at pear and trillion sapphires.

How is everyone?

Wow Stermag I''m impressed with you for doing 5k this morning! No wonder you''re pooped! I did 2.3 miles on the treadmill last night after work. I had such a good night''s sleep, it really motivates me to work out when I get home so I''m tired enough to fall asleep when I go to bed. I sit at a desk all day with little activity, so I usually have lots of energy when I get home. As the weather gets warmer here, I will start walking to work again (I live .6 of a mile away). I get an hour for lunch, so I think I''ll start taking my dog for about a 20 minute walk during my break...that will leave me another 20 minutes to grab a bite or do whatever else needs doing. I wish it would hurry up and get warm!!!!

have a great day everyone!

Morning ladies. I had a hell of a workout this morning. My trainer gave me extra time for some reason, so with the pre-trainer cardio, I did about 2 hours. Very tired, but I can''t eat anything yet since I have to weigh-in in about an hour. It''s going to be a free-for-all with the food and drinks this weekend, so I hope I do okay today!

ladies! good day.

sternmag: i too have blisters on my big toes!!! i have the wimpiest feet ever. instead of getting tougher, they just blister over and over and over again. very annoying. i think a rest day will do them some good!

my rest day was yesterday and i loved being able to head home early and get some things donw after work. we also went food shopping so we are prepared to be cooking our own food for a while and i've packed all my lunches/snacks this week!

virgina: i, too, have a "personal" diet. i can't keep to such a strict diet and i think that everyone knows what works for them the best. i try to stay away from packaged/processed foods and opt for fresh. and preparing meals yourself helps to control the healthiness.

okay. off to do some work

ETA: i'll be running today after work!!

What the athletic trainers at my school do for blisters on runners'' feet:

1) Second skin (cut to size. It feels cushiony and moist and cold; I think you have to keep it in the refrigerator)
2) Bandaid to keep this in place
3) Prewrap around this area of your foot. You should be able to find it at somewhere like CVS. It comes in rolls and isn''t sticky.
4) Athletic tape over the prewrap. You can also get this at CVS.

I''m not really sure if 3 and 4 work for toes though. I just know that a lot of the time, a bandaid with nothing over it works itself loose within a mile and is then even more annoying than having nothing.

Runner''s World has more suggestions on dealing with blisters. Also, certain shoes make me get blisters so much more easily than others, so switching for a week might be a good idea. Synthetic socks are better than cotton.

Good luck. Blisters can be painful.

Alright, I am the worst at keeping up with my workouts. After my last post (practically a month ago at this point), I didn''t work out for 3 weeks. Always an excuse, never a true reason.

Then one day I had a mini-freak out about how I wasn''t like how my body was changing (obviously not in a good way). So my fiancee and I decided to really have a "no excuses" view at exercising. To kick start our plan, we are planning workouts all 5 days of the working week. I plan to do 3 days of moderate cardio (20-30 minutes) plus weight lifting, and then 2 days of more intense cardio. I am such a wimp when it comes to running/really intense cardio and I really want to get over that. I also avoid ab work as much as possible usually, but I''m turning a leaf on that one also.

For now, I''m not going to really change my eating habits too much. We have been eating "clean" (aka natural, non-processed, lots of veggies, good fats) for about 2 years now and I feel confident that my eating really isn''t holding me back. The only thing I want to be more mindful of is my sweets intake & mostly b/c it makes me feel icky when I eat it.

So....we did go to the gym Wednesday & Thursday this week. My muscles are killing, but I feel good, as I did a run/walk combo. of 2.25 miles in about 30 minutes. Usually I get too lazy after 1 mile (I told you I was lazy!). And yesterday, even though my hips were hurting extremely bad (I have something called bursitis), I went on the elliptical/exercise bike for a combined total of 45 minutes!

On a side note, my gym has exercise bikes with internet & such....so I was Pricescoping while working out! It made the time go by so fast!

Everyone on here is so dedicated & has a really healthy outlook on life. Keep going!

Blenheim, after all of this, will I even be able to fit my foot into the shoe?

And Virginia, I think you're right - we are anniversary twins, or at least close... Jan 27th here.

Hi everyone,
I''ve gotten a late start today but did manage my 5th workout this morning. It was tough but I am sooo glad to be done for a day or two. I may try to start this week on Sunday but not sure. My eating''s been pretty good. Yesterday, I bought some soy milk to try and if so, i''m going to switch to that for cereal. I have been cutting back on the cereal and too much fruit the last few days b/c just haven''t been feeling very good. Not sure what the true cause is. Also, been pretty stressed the last few days. My bf and I are going through an issue, I guess that''s what you could call it. The other day, I decided to write him this letter (we don''t live together and I wanted to get out what I was thinking right away). I told him something that he didn''t know about, from my past. Important to me and doesn''t directly involve him, other than how it has affected me. Well, he read the letter yesterday while he was at work. We talked for a few minutes yesterday but that was it. He hasn''t called and said he''d like to wait until the weekend to talk. I am pretty upset. Just trying to manage here at work. I am sort of ok w/him taking some time but wonder how he''ll problem solve when we live together. And I really hoped for the support of telling him something hard for me.
But that being said, I was very ready not to workout this morning but forced myself to. I am very glad about that. I''m trying not to let this take over.
Have a good Friday and enjoy the weekend!

well i did 2m walk yesterday and some pilates...today it's pouring again (sunny break yesterday) so i doubt i'll do anything outside, which is okay since my legs are surely feeling the burn. so maybe some more pilates tonite or something. or i could just relax i guess!!

i tried this new kashi cereal today, heart to heart, which is like honey toasted cheerios but with extra fiber (5g!) and i put bananas in..yum. i also switched to 1% milk ala horizon organic which is what they carry at whole foods. figure the taste diff is nil and i don't need the extra 1% of fat anyway in 2%...i eat enough fat elsewhere!! hehee.

oh i also wanted to recommend a fun, tasty light snack for me sometimes...i always had great results in the past when i did this but then i got bored and forgot about it, 1% chocolate milk! sometimes if i don't have time for breakfast its a great tasty start to the day, or if you don't like eating actual breakfast. or a snack later in the day. i don't really mind the carbs as they are more natural and i love the little taste of chocolate but not enough to make you feel icky or anything. just a recommendation...something to have in the fridge!

Amy, sometimes stress has sooo much to do with how you''re feeling physically, and if you''re worried about a relationship issue it can really drain you. Someone sent me the following this morning, and when I read your post I thought of this:

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a
glass of water and asked,
"How heavy is this glass of water?"
Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g.
The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn''t matter.
It depends on how long you try to hold it.
If I hold it for a minute, that''s not a problem.
If I hold it for an hour, I''ll have an ache in my right arm.
If I hold it for a day, you''ll have to call an ambulance.
In each case, it''s the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier
it becomes."
He continued,
"And that''s the way it is with stress management.
If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later,
as the burden becomes increasingly heavy,
we won''t be able to carry on. "
"As with the glass of water,
you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again.
When we''re refreshed, we can carry on with the burden."
"So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down.
Don''t carry it home.
You can pick it up tomorrow.
Whatever burdens you''re carrying now,
let them down for a moment if you can."
So, my friend, why not take a while to just simply RELAX.
Put down anything that may be a burden to you right now.
Don''t pick it up again until after you''ve rested a while.
Life is short.
Enjoy it!

I know that''s really cheesy, but sometimes these things are inspiring!

Take care, and have a great weekend!

Monarch, thank you! I appreciate the sentiment and am trying to think about other things and somewhat let it go until he and I talk. But it''s not working too well. I know that stress has major physical effects on me so i''m sure it''s not helping how I feel. And my son is having a friend sleep over tonight so i''m going to try and rent a movie to keep me busy and so I don''t go crazy. I almost wish I hadn''t worked out this morning, just so that I have a planned 1hr activity. However, it''s not like I can''t find something to clean in my house!!

Mara,

I am a bit of a chocolate milk lover and have tasted dozens of different brands. In my humble opinion, Organic Valley Reduced Fat Chocolate Milk is, hands down, the best stuff on earth. It has a very good chocolate/cocoa flavor... and you can actually taste the chocolate as opposed to just some artificial "sweet" you see in many others.

:)

Haha, it does sound excessive, doesn''t it? In reality, it''s no more bulky than getting your ankle taped, if you''ve ever had that done. But since toes are so tiny, I''m not sure how well it would work for them. I''m much more used to having blisters on places like my heels. Runner''s World or a similar website could have better suggestions.

I just realized that I''ve posted several times in workout threads, with no mention of what I''m doing fitness-wise. I ran college track and cross country until November, when I herniated a disk in my back. Running and all exercise other than swimming is out for a while, doctor''s orders. I try to swim laps most mornings, but only when my back can handle it (today it couldn''t).
